@jojogirl - I haven't noticed any cramping, but I have heard that cramping is only concerning if there is bleeding along with it. It is good that you talk to your dr. about it.

I keep telling myself I am just going to try a morning workout and see how it goes, but it hasn't happened yet. :) I am talking myself up for a run tomorrow morning, though!

I went to the gym once in my first trimester. I was just too exhausted to do anything but sleep or lay on the couch. :)
I got my energy back at 11 weeks and have been keeping up with my workouts (now almost 30 weeks). By keeping up I mean doing workouts but at a much lower intensity.

I think you're doing a great job to still be making it 3-4 times per week. As or myself, I never really did get into the swing of things from about 8 weeks or so. LO is 5 months old now and for the past 2 months I have been back at the gym. It's still a loooong road back to my former weight, but it's great to be active again.

Ok not to seriously threadjack, but I've been cramping on and off for the last couple of days, worried i pushed it too hard in my CF workouts... my doc said cramping ok, cramping + bleeding bad. Do any of you guys experience this after an intense workout, especially @blackbird since you're further along? I'm 9w4d today. It never happens DURING the WOD, but maybe an hour after. Probably unrelated, but still...

@TLCbaby and @Jojogirl - I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with this. I figure at least everyone will understand when they find out in a few weeks.

@Blackbird - that is so good to hear! I do feel better when I get in to the gym, although I feel like my recovery takes muuuuuch longer. I'm so looking forward to getting my energy back in the second tri.

Yay another crossfitter :)

I turned a corner for exhaustion around week 10/11. I only had it real bad for about 2 weeks (6-8, maybe 7-9ish), but i dragged my ass to the gym anyways. I slept SO MUCH BETTER those nights and my work out perked me up until bedtime, so I had the energy to do the things I needed to. I went to bed about a half hour earlier some days, though.

My workouts have fared MUCH better since my second trimester. I don't get as out of breath, I've PR'd about 3 times, and everything is scalable. So you'll be there soon :)

@TLCBaby, I've been scaling in a few ways. For strength work, I've reduced my maxes down by about 75%, and have been going by what feels fast and "good" - no slow grinding reps. This is based upon advice from my coaches and on the crossfitmom website that jojogirl mentioned. That said, I did compete in an olympic lifting meet at 4.5 weeks and did crossfit total at 8 weeks, so I haven't really stopped lifting heavy. I've been doing crossfit for about 18 months so I feel relatively comfortable with what I'm doing, even though I'm lifting well over the old conventional wisdom of 35 lbs or whatever.

I haven't stopped doing any movements, but I've just been going slower in metcons, making sure to catch my breath and not get too winded. All my coaches know so they aren't breathing down my neck about it, and I've just kind of been feigning sickness (not too hard these days) for my friends at the gym who wonder why I've gotten so slow, haha.

@winniebee - my running was just starting to get faster and now I am trying not to worry about the numbers and just do what feels good. It is hard to squash my competitive side, though. :)

My migraines got pretty crazy during my first trimester, and exercise triggers migraines for me. I had to do everything to not get a migraine because I didn't want to take any meds for fear of hurting the baby, so no working out for me.

They got better during the second half of my second trimester so I was able to start doing some light walking and water exercises, but still nothing crazy.

@tlcbaby: I was really nervous about CrossFit during the first couple of weeks, but have relaxed some and am doing most of them the way I was before pregnancy. Have you checked out crossfitmom.com? There are TONS of posts on the forum asking about scaling back. She basically says to use the 'breath test' and make sure you can still talk while you're doing cardio/metcons and scale back the weights. I haven't actually scaled my weights back at all, but make sure my HR doesn't spike above about 170 (85% max for me) because the breath test can be hard to verify mid-WOD! I just try to keep an eye on my exertion. My coaches all know I'm pregnant so that helps. Oh and I dropped burpees and box jumps from day one.

(sorry for the threadjack - @TLC there's a whole thread on crossfit around here somewhere)

@revel - how have you been scaling your CrossFit workouts? So far, I have just been keeping the weight low and taking really long breaks to rest and get water if I need to, even if we are doing something with only a 10 or 15 minute cap. I am not worried about my times right now :)

3-4 days a weeks sounds like you are doing pretty well! Mine have totally suffered. I was going to crossfit 5 days a week, including usually 4 days a week at 7am. Like you I struggle getting there in the morning and after work sometimes doesn't work either. I've been getting in 3 days a week but I don't feel like my workouts are that great :-/

I definitely feel much more winded/tired by some movements, but many of my lifts haven't suffered too much. I'm at 8w3d right now and I can't wait to make it to the second tri and get some energy back.

I still did my regular workouts for 6 weeks or so, and then I had some bleeding so my doctor wanted me to stop until my NT scan. I was worried that I would never be able to get back to it after taking that much time off, but once I got the okay to go back to the gym I did right away and felt fine. I'm still working out 3-4 times a week. Point being, even if you aren't up to it in the first tri - you can still get back to your routine once you get your energy back.

3-4 days a week is great, but I would stick to the regular gym, cardio and light weights. You definitely want to stay active, but you don't want to overdo it either. :) I was at the gym 3 times a week doing cardio and light weights until 34 weeks (delivered at 36 weeks).
For post-baby, most gyms seem to require that baby is 3 months old before you can leave them with the gym daycare. I was able to start going back at 3 weeks PP though, because my husband stays home with baby while I work out, and then I come home and we switch.

Once I hit around 8 weeks and the exhaustion set in, I seriously came home from work every day and sat on the couch for a few hours, then went to bed. I couldn't do anything. But around the beginning of the second tri, I got much better and got back into light jogging and then walking on the treadmill. I kept that up until probably 8 months, and then went back to being a giant lump on the couch.

If by "suffer" you mean "stop existing," then yes! I couldn't make myself do anything first tri--I remember feeling really accomplished when I finally felt good enough to get off the couch and clean up the living room. I'm more active in the second tri. Not a big workout person, but I go on more walks and do more active stuff these days.

Yes. I feel like a big sack of blubber. I haven't worked out since week 5. I feel too, too bad. I even own a stationary bike and figured I could ride that for a little movement, even at a slow speed, but I can't. I try not to feel too bad ("busy growing a baby" and all that) but I know I've gained a little weight and lost a lot of muscle definition, which makes me sad. Hoping to get back in the saddle once the sickness lifts. God, I hope the sickness lifts.

Edited to add I'm also 8 weeks.

Absolutely. Before I even tested I commented to my husband that I better be pregnant or otherwise I just have randomly started to suck. One day we were going to go running together and I said ohhh, I'll meet up with you in a bit I'm a bit tired so I don't want to run as far. He found me asleep on the couch. I tested the next day and had a nice bright positive.

Thanks everybody, that makes me feel a lot better. I think maybe on the days when I know I won't be able to fit a workout in, I should find time to go for a walk with the dogs or something so I at least feel like I am moving! I guess if I were getting paid to workout like my instructors that would give me a little extra motivation. :)

@jessibee - I have always thought that rest is just as important to health as exercise, which is why I don't force myself out of bed if I know I am really tired. :) I am not even ready to think about post-baby workouts! Luckily the Y and my CrossFit gym have childcare, but I am sure they have to be over a certain age.
