They really don't need very many at this age. They really just love human interaction more than anything. My 9-week old will only spend up to 10 minutes watching the mobile or playing on his activity mat before he starts fussing because he wants me to "play" with him. "Play" means just talking to him at this point, involving him in what I do (I wear him while I bake, or take walks. Sometimes I just sit him on my knee while I check email), moving his hands while we sing, making his feet "run" - he loves that type of stuff.

Even as he gets older though, they really just like watching what you do and interacting with you.

But, my LO got a good amount of toys as gifts.

He has a floor mat with lots of hanging toys, exersaucer, swing with mobile, wooden beads, 3 soft fabric like books, 5-10 stuffed animals, 2-3 teethers, baby phone, soft fabric blocks, activity walker, and a whole lot of board books. I think he definitely has enough toys until he's about a year old.

We got LO the take along tunes (she's still LOVES it at almost 13 months old). And she had her Sophie.
She spent most of her time in her swing and baby einstein around the world play gym.

olive has:

baby einstein take along tunes
plush - lamaze jacques the peacock, whoozit
sophie the giraffe
activity mat
balls - winkel/skwish/oball
the first years teething blanket

she isn't great at holding onto sophie, jacques and the whoozit. the balls, teething blanket, and baby einstein tunes are great though.

her dexterity really seemed to be behind so i recently bought two toys to help improve it. the tiny love stroller toy bar:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000S9RF4M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

and the sassy wonderwheel.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004AHMCKA/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00

both toys are really awesome and i'm glad i got them.

now that she's older, i bought a used around we go (exersaucer), and we had a jumperoo from charlie. she's 6 1/2 months!

@regberadaisy: We had a play mat/play gym for tummy time & she also loved laying on her back because it had lights & toys hanging down...we got a TON of use out of this from about 5 weeks-6 months.

Besides that we just had a few board books to read her, simple plastic rings or little rattles, etc. Don't worry when the toys really start you'll have a ton of them & fast!! haha At least that's what I've found this past 6 months (LO is almost 1)

We don't have much either and I was wondering the same thing. We have a few little things that were gifted at shower - bath boats, 2 stuffed animals, a few sets of musical keys, a musical thing that I don't even know what it's called, sophie the giraffe and her friend, and a little pull down toy for his car seat. Also have a play mat for tummy time. I don't plan on getting anything else for awhile...I figure when he starts engaging and grabbing I'll figure out if he "needs" anything else!

She didn't play with many toys at that age. When she started grabbing she started loving toys.

Watching some old vacation footage of my husband's niece when she was young and seeing pictures of friend's babies on FB made me realize I don't really have a lot of "toys" for our LO.

We have a stuffed dragon (year of the dragon!) with interactive parts for newborns, a playmat for tummy time, bouncer/rocker, Chicco Keys (gifted), 2 stuffed animals gifted, a hand me down wooden stacking ring, activity bar for car seat and that's it.

I'm not about to go running and buying her a bunch of toys. But wondering if over time -on sale!- I should pick her up some more?

Do you/Did you have much toys for your 0-6 month old?
If so, what were some of your faves?
