I took his last name, and am glad I did. I dropped my maiden name altogether. I do miss it, but I guess I am a little traditional in that aspect.

I'm going to (we're still engaged, wedding in 3 months) but I'm keeping my last name as a second middle name. It's really for the "have the same last name as future kids and hubby" not a traditional or obligatory thing for me.

When I was young, I said that I'd only change my name if I got to use the capital lower capital (ex. McMom), which my husband's last name has. So I went from my cool last name to his, but it took me almost a year.

I got rid of my middle name and took my madien name as my middle name. It was important to both of us to have the same last name (and our kids too).

I hyphenated my name...professionally I go by my maiden name simply because hubby's last name is the same as my first. Of all the luck! I always wanted to change my name but when it came down to it I just couldn't be (ex Beverly Beverly). So having it hyphenated gives me the option of choosing what name I want people to know me by..except on legal things of course.

I had a really boring common last name, so I jumped at the chance to change my name to my husband's, which is more unique. I definitely don't regret it and I love my new last name! Although sometimes I still think of myself with my old last name and forget that it's different, haha. It's also a little strange knowing my last name is not the same as my parents and brother's anymore.

Will definitely be changing mine. At the moment I am VeryCommonEightiesName VeryCommonKiwi/WelshName. I forgot to take a loyalty card when buying some clothing and they had to ask for my address as there were ten people with the same exact name on their system. In a country of four million people, that's a lot! I also have someone in my circle of close friends with the same last name, no relation. I feel no real connection to the name at all.
I'll be changing to VeryCommonEightiesName NameCommonInAmericaButNotHere and I can totally live with that :)

I did. We have the same background, our families are both Eastern European. We actually both don't have our original last names anyway, they've both been shortened after our family moved over to the states. So I'm not really attached to mine, it's' not original. Plus, I love having the same last name as my new family.

@mynoahbear: I have a Korean first name + Polish last name.

I could honestly say that I'm probably the only one with my name in this entire planet. CRAZY.

I waited around 4 months because I could never find time to make it to the SS office during their short hours. I still haven't changed my passport, but I think I'm good on everything else... I think.

I plan to, but I haven't yet. We moved overseas a week after our wedding, and I can't do all the paperwork from here. So I still have my maiden name legally, but I go by my married name socially. When we're back in the states next year I'll get it changed.

I decided to keep mine. At first it was laziness because we got military orders to move less than a month after our wedding.

Now, I just like the idea of keeping it. I have a very simple, Anglo last name that fits well with my simple, Irish first name. DHs last name is very, very Italian and it just doesn't sound good. It has caused some issues with the military, because I guess they think that married couples should always have the same name, but other than that it hasn't been an issue. I guess I will hyphenate eventually.

Our kids will have his last name.

I kept my name but our future kids will have their dad's last name (although he's been talking about combining them somehow, but I'm for simplicity, plus I like his). Here in Sweden, most couples aren't even married so it's pretty common to not share a name.

I took my husband's name, but got super attached to my maiden name a few months prior to the wedding. So I moved my maiden name to my middle name since I originally didn't have one. It's a weird name combo, but over a year after our wedding, I think I would have been okay without moving my maiden name as my middle...

I did the most complicated option possible: I hyphenated. To legally hyphenate is a huge PITA (I know some girls who have "hyphenated" on Facebook, but really took their husbands' last names).

I have a super common Vietnamese last name (pretty mush the #1 last name) and added onto it a long-ass German last name. So now my last name is 15 letters long. I still have a Viet legal name, but an American nickname I go by to everyone outside of my family.

I changed mine and dropped my maiden name. It was harder for me to do than I ever thought it would be. I changed my driver's license and SS within a month of getting married, but still need to do the bank and my passport. I was planning on finally going to the bank today and then realized, duh, it's Veteran's Day. It makes me a little bit sad, which I didn't anticipate at all. My 'new' name still sounds funny to me and I don't quite have my new signature down yet, but it will come!

I knew all along I would change my name and have never regretted it. We're very traditional so I've always just thought of it as something that comes along with marriage. I went from an American name to another American name. My maiden name was a little easier to say and spell only because it was very phonetic. My last name now has a tricky silent G that trips people up. I do still get called by my maiden name a lot since I'm a teacher and was teaching before I got married. I'm proud to have taken my husband's name..I know how much it means to him and I love it when my father-in-law calls me Mrs.Married lastname.
