I'm hoping the new park near our house is finished by then because they're putting in a fire truck play structure and since he loves fire fighters and trucks, I think it would be fun to have family over for cake and to go play at the park. I have a hard time not planning a big party, though. It was a hit and I highly recommend even if bowling alley's aren't always the nicest. They provided everything (plates, pizza, and drinks) and all I had to do was bring the decorations and cake. Simplest party I've planned to date. And all the kids had such a blast and they provided rails for all the kiddies. My youngest only had a 1st at home. I don't know if I will plan one for him next year. Maybe when he starts preschool and has more friends. But both kids will have celebrations with family no matter what. I think we'll throw a 6th birthday party for him since it'll be his last year at Montessori before going to traditional grade school. Plus, by then we'll be ready to purge some younger toys to accommodate new toys. We're kinda on an every-other-year-is-a-big-bday-party schedule... My first DD had a "Toy Story 3" party in the party room of our old apt building, and DD2 just had a "carnival/circus &amp; teddy bears" party at Build-a-Bear Workshop. After every big party though, I tell myself "no more" (so much work and $$ for such young ages), but then have been caving in... </p> <p>I think for #3 though, we might skip his 3rd and go big at 4yo. We included 2-3 year old girl friends only so it was nice to have similar aged kids. I made this crazy Pinterest blue jello igloo which came out kind of strange looking but everything else went well! I made a winter theme menu that I could send u if u want. We invited siblings for neighborhood kids bc often they'll all play together anyways and that worked out well to have a mix of ages. I took a gamble and had it at a local park where there's no reservations but we had it in the morning so no one was using them yet. I had a mix of outdoor toys for free play and organized games and one arts and craft activity.
