Okay I just goggled this.

http://paleoleap.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-water-weight/

-------------------------------------------------------

Want some numbers? Let’s start with the carbs. Every 1 gram of carbohydrate requires 3-4 grams of water to process and store it. To translate that into more familiar language, say you eat 1 medium Russet potato. You’ll be eating 37 grams of carbohydrate, which would require 111-148 grams of water. That’s 4-5 ounces, just under half a pound. On a moderate-carb diet, the average person will be retaining around 1.5 pounds of water weight just from carbs on a regular basis. If you go on a fast or simply stop eating all carbohydrates, you’ll lose that 1.5 pounds immediately.

Now imagine that you had a non-Paleo meal and ate a big plate of pasta (say, 3 cups of cooked pasta, which is normal for a place like Olive Garden) and a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. That’s 129 grams of carbs for the pasta, and around 72 grams for the cake – 201 grams of carbohydrate in total, which requires 603-804 grams of water. You just gained an extra 1.3-1.7 pounds of water weight from the carbohydrates in one meal, but that doesn’t mean you gained any fat. It’ll be gone in a few days.

@Mamaof2: Hopefully when I'm not on full blown diet mood with my co-worker I can only weight in once a week but we have to do it daily for now. She wants to extend our one month agreement which I'm actually up for. It was tough today to see the 2 pound increase! I mean I see increases all the time but this is my highest one. Haha. Hoping it is water retention. Thanks! *fingers crossed*

@avivoca: Hm... I don't actually track because I have wonky cycles but maybe!! :) Thanks! I usually weigh myself in the morning so I don't have anything to drink before the "weigh in".

How much water have you had? Where are you in your cycle? So many things can influence your weight. My husband currently weighs less than I do because he hasn't really had anything to drink today.

I only weigh once a week and with one cheat day I doubt I would see it at all

Could definitely be water weight!

If you cheated on your diet when do you see it on the scale?

Cheating is a relative term. I didn’t really cheat… I just ate badly, since my diet is just eating less… I mean I ate less than I normally would but it was bad food I was eating! Like fried salty foods.

Anyways the next day was fine… and I ate well all yesterday but today my scale number is terrible like 2 pounds up!! Could it have been my poor eating two days ago? It was very salty. I’m kind of wondering if it was water weight retention.

I’m just curious. It really doesn’t bother me that much because I’m pretty sure I didn’t really gain 2 pounds. Well hopefully! Haha.
