Generally as long as you make good food choices nutritionally & eat when you're hungry you should be good.

I have had to increase my calories/fat BUT I had to omit quite a bit including dairy, eggs, nuts, and some others. I pretty much eat like a teenage boy but make healthy choices. I haven't had any supply issues AND I've been able to drop my pregnancy weight without any exercise.

Yep, as PP said, you need around 500 extra calories a day when breastfeeding. You'll also need to keep a close eye on your supply if you do diet / cut calories especially if you've feeding a newborn and still establishing or regulating your supply.

If you do find dieting negatively effects your supply you could maybe up your intake of healthy foods and reduce the empty calories from junk or snack foods.

I honestly don't worry about calories, I focus more on eating healthy, nutrient-dense foods. Eating a diet of largely Frits and vegetables means your overall caloric intake will be lower, but the food is richer and your body will still thrive. I don't consider the way I eat a passing diet, it's a lifestyle. I eat mostly paleo- so meat, Fruits, veggies, limited dairy, and legumes such as beans and nuts. Limited grains as well. They are high in calories but mostly empty calories.

I'm on my phone right now, so I can't search for the reference, but I remember reading somewhere that you need 500 extra calories a day while breastfeeding. I don't count my calories at all, but I know that my supply takes a hit when I don't eat as much. Can you work in more exercise to kick start your weight loss again?

Okay, stupid question, but how many calories do you need while breastfeeding? I know that bf'ing obviously burns calories, but in order to keep supply up, do you have to eat more than normal? Same as normal? If you eat less than normal (i.e., dieting), will that wreck your supply?!

I think right now I'm eating a little more than normal, but my weight loss has kind of stalled... would it be okay for me to cut back to my normal, pre-pregnancy amount or less?
