Dinner is usually when I can get mine to eat more. It may be partially because there is a longer time between lunch/snacking/breastfeeding. Breakfast is usually always a no go, but in the morning is usually when she fills up on breastmilk the most so it makes sense. He may just not be hungry then. I assume he's having regular bottles before or after the solids so that could have an impact.

My 8-month old is really inconsistent with both food and bottles. I worried about it at first, but the dr pointed out that babies are just like big people- sometimes they are hungrier than others. As long as he is gaining weight, I don't worry about it.

My daughter is almost 3 and she has always eaten like that too! She is a big lunch eater and then she has gone back and forth between wanting to eat breakfast or dinner. I just try to look at her nutrition over the span of the day or a couple days instead of per meal.

@DesertDreams88: my eight month old is also very inconsistent. I never know what he's going to do for daycare and his grandma. I just don't worry about it anymore, he eats when he's hungry I guess!

Since starting solids, DD2 has always eaten huge breakfasts and very light dinners. She is almost 2 but routinely out-eats her 4.5yo sister at breakfast but then picks her way through family dinners, even if it's stuff she definitely likes.

My 12 month old has always done great with meals, but she isn't much of a lunch person. She eats way more for breakfast and dinner than she does for lunch. She eats table food, so I just make sure to offer a good variety and don't worry about it. She's also a kid who will definitely let everyone know when she's hungry though, so that helps with the not worrying.

Do your LOs regularly eat less or more with a certain meal or time of day? LO (7.5 months) eats about 4 oz of thick puree for dinner, but only 2-2.5, maybeee 3 oz of thick puree during the day for "breakfast" and "lunch" while in with grandparents during the day. I've suggested heating up the food and/or giving him a spoon to play with (both things usually encourage him to finish dinner, if need be), but I don't know if that's happening.

He's on a loose 2-3-4 schedule, so maybe that 4 hour evening stretch just makes him hungrier?

I just hope that the grandparents aren't giving up on feeding him at the slightest decline of interest. Sometimes he is cranky with them (their words) and I wonder if it is hunger.
