@Mrs. Yoyo: this is really good to hear! She's only 11 days old, so we're still getting used to each other I guess! I just need to be patient.

@Pirouette: exactly what @hilsy85 said. I have/had this problem, also with my left. The towel trick has helped, as has block nursing. Ultimately time is the best cure, though. At 8 weeks LO is better able to deal with forceful letdown.

@hilsy85: I know - and I'm already an overproducer so that's my concern!

@Pirouette: you just want to make sure not to pump too much/long bc that will actually signal your body to make more milk in that side.

@Pirouette: I've heard it works for overactive letdown. Though @hilsy85 has a good idea too.

@brownie: I do have a pump. So pumping before would help?

@hilsy85: interesting - maybe I'll try this next time... Thanks!

Instead of pumping, I would pull her off when you feel letdown/see her start to struggle, and let the milk flow into a towel or burp cloth until it slows, then relatch.

Do you have a pump? Can you pump for a moment on the left and then latch her? Then if she isn't getting traumatized it may work out better in the long run.

For the past few days, my LO has been having trouble with my left breast. On the right, she latches like a champ and sucks persistently for 20-30+ minutes. On the left, I guess I have an overactive letdown because she sucks for 5 minute clips and pulls off coughing and pushes the milk down (doesn't spit up) but then needs to be burped and may not come back to the boob for 20+ minutes.

I'm still trying to find my rhythm after engorgement issues last week, and have found doing one breast per feeding is best for my supply - but if she's feeding 30 minutes on the right and 5 minute intervals on the left it's tough to know how much she's getting and when to switch sides...do I do a few on the left for every right? I'm also concerned about giving her the left breast overnight because I fear it will lead to short frequent feedings (this hasn't been the case but the issues with the left just started)

Also any tips for evening out the two sides - if that's even possible - would also be great! I can feel how the milk pours into her and even though she handles it well, I feel bad! Would pumping help in any capacity?
