We are taking a more NTNP approach to this one rather than our first (where I was charting temp) so this time definitely feels more casual. I am excited about it and I have baby fever but I do bounce back and fourth between should we wait longer or not. Realistically, we want them 2-2.5ish years apart so we need to get moving on that soon but I'm kind of wavering on whether we should wait and try for a fall baby instead of a summer one? Or maybe a winter one? Hahaha insanely first world problems.

@MrsMccarthy: I'm still breastfeeding DS (15 months) so I'm assuming it will take us longer than the first time.

I think because this time there wasn't a major countdown or big discussion, we just sort of decided we'd see what happens and it's definitely not as exciting!

In my case I was really excited to start TTC both times and the second time was actually a bigger thing because we really were trying and it took a while because of hormonal issues most likely due to breastfeeding.

Yea I wasn't as excited really! I was mourning not only having my baby (LO1). But in our grand picture we saw two.

Now at almost 21 weeks I'm excited :)

We had the same "whatever happens, happens" attitude both times. But I notice that this time around I sometimes "forget" I am pregnant, versus the first time when it was all I could think about!

I never felt baby fever until now. The first time I was relaxed about it and when it happens, it happens. It happened on the first try. Now I am totally feeling the heat because I would like a 2.5 year age gap.

@Anagram: I feel similarly. I had a love/hate relationship with pregnancy the first time.... I loved the bump, loved feeling the baby move, etc...but I was so, so, sick those first 4 months...throwing up 4-5x a day (at least), getting migraines that Tylenol didn't touch, etc. It's not so much having 2 kids that scares me, it's being pregnant, super sick, and taking care of the one we have.

That being said, we decided to TTC this month, sort of on a whim. I don't think our timing was that great, but I do still find myself feeling excited and obsessing during the 2ww. I do really want to get a BFP, even though I am so not looking forward to how I will feel. I honestly think if I do not get pregnant this time around (or maybe with one more cycle), I may try to convince DH to wait until after Christmas to try. We have so much travel planned for Thanksgiving and Christmas, including multiple plane flights, and I really don't want to be super sick then. But, we'll see.

ETA: I was super sick with both of my first pregnancies (1st ended in a mc at 7.5 weeks). My sister had the same experience, super sick with first 2 pregnancies, first pregnancy ending in mc. She was just pregnant the 3rd time and not nearly as sick... so I am holding onto that possibility, even though I am prepared for the worst.

It's definitely different this time around. I felt no pressure the first time and was blessed to get pregnant pretty quickly. My cycles have changed since having DS and trying to get O day and all that sorted out is a lot more confusing than I anticipated!

We're shooting for a 2.5-3 year age gap.

@Anagram: I could have written your post. Ugh I am so not looking forward to being sick and dealing with a difficult toddler too. But I'm also not getting pregnant as quickly this time and just want to get this part over with too. I just want to move on and never TTC again! So that I can have a baby and never be pregnant again too! ;)

@QBbride: that would be nice but I don't want to get my hopes up about that, because statistics say if you have very bad morning sickness with one, it's more likely with subsequent pregnancies. Also, one of my friends from my birth month mom group had equally bad morning sickness, and she just got pregnant again and it's already started--earlier, and worse. She's already been to the hospital for IV rehydration and she's only 6 weeks along or so.

scares me.

@QBbride: I definitely feel different that the first time, but not in a good way. With #1, we decided on a whim to try and within 2 weeks, I realized my period had not arrived and I was pregnant. It happened so quickly, we were kind of shocked, but in a pleasant way. But then I got very, very sick..."morning" sickness for 24/7 for almost 4 months. It was very difficult on me...

And now that I know what pregnancy is like for my body, I'm actually dreading being pregnant again. I want to do it because we're getting older and I don't have forever--plus, bad morning sickness isn't something that will go away if I wait. And I want to get it over with.

But when I think about caring for a 1 year old, and working full time, with a husband who works long hours--AND being sick and needing to throw up constantly every single hour of my life for 4 months?

I get a bit depressed about it, actually. I'm not looking forward to pregnancy at all, although I am looking forward to the baby I get AFTER the pregnancy.

@hilsy85: I would prefer a warm birth month too, the dark/rainy winters really affect me so I don't want to be stuck inside. With my June baby, the early AM feeds didn't feel so bad since the sun was already up.

@cascademom: I would love an aug/sept baby but I know I can't choose so we might as well try! My son was born in June, which was a really nice time... I'm just worried they'll have birthdays super close together.

I just feel sort of guilty for already not being super excited, you know? Last time I started counting down forrrrrever before we actually pulled the goalie!

@QBbride: Anywhere from 2,5-3 years....if I got pregnant this month, they'd be 2 years 7 months apart. So that would be great! I would also prefer a warm birth month so I'm not stuck inside with newborn and toddler...just more to think about this time around!

@QBbride: I have similar feelings about TTC #2. I'm using the methods we did for LO #1. I can't tell you exactly what day I'm DPO because I have about a million things going on with LO, work, and home this week. I'm less obsessed for sure. The age gap is probably my biggest worry and same birth months. I want August to be about DH and LO, not another LO, but I'm just happy to get pregnant sooner than later.

I am way more nervous/less excited this time. I just want it to happen and have the TTC process be over! I felt very little pressure the first time around, but feel a lot more this time to have our "ideal" age gap.

Does/did anyone else feel differently ttc the second time around?

The first time I was soo excited, we started ttc right before our wedding. It's all I ever thought about! I got pregnant really quickly, we were very lucky!

We've just started ttc#2 and it feels so... anti climatic. No big lead up, no obsessing. I think part of the reason is I'm so busy working and caring for DS, I just don't have time to obsess! Plus I'm majorly over analyzing what the "ideal" age difference is, whether we should wait a bit longer (if it happens quickly again, they'll be about 2 years apart).

Can anyone else relate? Normal? Or a sign I'm not ready?
