Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! Sounds like I may be able to make this work, especially as baby gets a little older. I had to pump so much with my first baby to keep up it's hard to reconcile that I might not have to work so hard this time

I've never had amazing supply but I managed to only pump twice a day for LO2 and had enough for the whole year and still nursing her at almost 15 months!

I do this 1-2 days each week (out of a 5-day work week) and it doesn't affect supply much. The main thing for me is that I skip the middle pump, not the last one, since I get the milk that accumulated for both pump sessions at the later one (or at least close to the same amount). I keep up the 3 pumps/day whenever I can to maintain supply though.

Echo what @mrswin: said about another short pump session & eating well to maintain Supply.

@Revel: When I did this I found that I could maintain the overall amount and meet my DD's full breast milk needs by adding a really short pumping session in the evening 9:30 or 10pm (1-2 oz) before going to bed

Just be careful about making sure you are still eating enough and drinking plenty of water when you add exercise in your routine or you may see a dip in supply as a result of burning more calories.

I've unintentionally done this over the past few months. Since I'm less concerned with getting the right number of ounces and I don't get engorged often I just accidentally take too long between sessions or forget a pumping session entirely sometimes. My supply (determined by pumping output) has dropped a bit over the last few months but I don't think it has to do with this. My nursing relationship has stayed the same. For reference, my LO is 10 months and does fantastic with solids.

I did this. I was avoiding formula due to allergies and found that I could drop to two sessions and get the same output most days. By Friday I was short an ounce or two, so I would try and add a third pumping session in on Thursday.

Question for pumping moms - any experience switching between 2 and 3 pumping sessions per day a few times a week? My LO is 6 months and I'm pumping pretty much enough for him 3x a day during my workday, and we BF evenings/overnight/weekends. I'm considering dropping a pump maybe 2 days a week to allow me to get back to the gym. My primary concern is maintaining our nursing relationship long term, not precisely the amount that I'm pumping as he's having solids now and I could add formula to make up some ounces if needed.
