@Sammyfab: Actually he has been tired and we have moved his bedtime from 8 to 7 (by his choice).

Ugh he did this in daycare at the gym today--he was fine for the first 30 minutes and then freaked out. :( No clue if it is related to the night thing.

@mamajaja: I hope it's a phase, too!

no help here, only sympathy. LO is going through the exact same thing. She'll wake up every 20-60 minutes for the first 3-4 hours after being put down and then knock out for the night with maybe 1 feeding. She just turned 7 months today, I hope it's just a phase.

@pastemoo: are things any better? Do you think he is overtired and an earlier bedtime might help?

Baby sleep cycles are 30-50 minutes. my LO still changes positions every 40 minutes or so at nighttime. I think after a year they become hour-long sleep cycles!

@pastemoo: i think our babies are twins because Owen is going through the exact same thing. For about two weeks he had been falling asleep on his own. I would feed him, change him, and put him in his crib where he'd play and fall asleep. Then all of a sudden he is just screaming whenever I leave him and when he does fall asleep, he wakes up an hour later screaming again.

Before we did the CIO method and it worked but now he just gets angrier and angrier. He's also been a lot fussier during the day so I don't know if it's because he's cranky because he's tired from the lack of sleep or if something else is really wrong. He just popped two teeth a few weeks ago so I don't think he's teething still and it's probably too early for new teeth. I need a baby translator!

@Sammyfab: He usually does. I change him, feed him, put him in PJs, sing a lullaby, and pray and then leave him. He is usually fairly awake at that point. He may cry and sometimes I go back in 5 minutes to replace his paci but then he is usually out.

Ahhhh...separation anxiety hit us the day LO turned 6 months and is exactly what c.sassy described. Bleh. Thankfully it didn't really affect my lo's sleep.

@pastemoo: does your LO fall asleep on his own? I think it may be a combination of everything mentioned above (separation anxiety, wonder week, travel) and maybe some sleep dependencies?

Mine doesn't have the same problem, but for the first 3 hours of his sleep he does cry on and off, some nights more than others. But he only cries for a minute or the cries are definitely in-his-sleep cries. Tonight one of the cries sounded like a he's-awake cry, so I started getting ready for bed (where he can hear me) and he stopped crying and he's been sleeping without crying ever since then (1.5 hours). No answers here.

@c.sassy: My guy is 6 months yesterday and the separation anxiety is bananas! He will only let others hold him for 5 minutes or so and he watches me the entire time. He will let DH hold him, but if I enter the room, he'll start whining until I take him. I am also exhausted by it. It's amazingly aggravating because I feel so guilty, but if I don't get a little me time here and there I go nuts! I had to leave him 3 times this week and every time I went to pick him up from my MIL (left for no more than 1 hour) I could hear him screaming from the driveway when I returned.

@pastemoo: HA! I wish we could blame it on the weather! My ped said that we're dealing with separation anxiety, but that it's earlier than normal. Not only is she waking up screaming, but she's screaming when someone other than DH or I hold her, when we're not in the room with her, if we leave her line of vision... It happened suddenly and it's exhausting.

@winniebee: :) I sang this to him in the waiting room after the check up before the shots and he LOVED it. I almost felt guilty but it was pretty funny.
Interesting--I forgot about wonder weeks! He is loving peek-a-boo more than usual and was constantly held this week while we were traveling. We also coslept a bunch (super cosleep--not just in bed but in arms).

I asked the doctor about the screaming because she's gone through phases where that's the only way she would wake up. This last time at her four month appointment he said her thrush was worse and a couple of days after we started her new medicine, she stopped the screaming.

The first time he said it might be gas though and I think he was right about that too.

Maybe also he's just overly tired from the shots? I hate the screaming though so I sympathize.

Hahaha to the shots montage.

I don't pay very close attention to it, but I think you're at the tail end of a wonder week - relationships. Which sometimes means baby begins to understand the distance between you and him. Maybe that's it?

Tyler has been a worse sleeper the past few weeks and it turns out he is closeish to cutting teeth. The other night he cried every hour until midnight. I didn't go to him and he just fell back asleep.

I don't know if this is a sleep regression or something else. I don't even know how to ask. My baby had his 6 month well baby visit and he is fine and in good health so...

Why when we put him to bed does he wake screaming every few minutes? He calms immediately when we go in (either myself or my husband) and falls asleep. Then he somehow wakes again a few minutes later! I thought sleep cycles were supposed to be 50 minutes to 2 hours depending on development.
Same thing waking screaming every few minutes for a few hours and then he's out for the night (with the regular 3-4 wakeups, 3 feedings).

What is going on? Has this happened to you/your LO?
