I was 2.5 cm dilated 10% effaced two days before my water broke with LO1. I was 3.5-4cm and like 50% effaced for like 4 days before I went into labor with LO2.

@runnerd: sounds like it went well, I clicked over and saw your baby is a few months old already, but congrats!

I'll add mine anyway..
Lo1: about 1cm the last few weeks, born on due date after a couple days in labor.
Lo2: not dilated at all, born after I think 14 hrs of labor at 39+1.

My 1st I was dilated 1cm and 80% effaced at 40+3 when I went into labor spontaneously.
With my 2nd I was almost 4 cm and 80% effaced when they induced me at 40weeks. So I was a lot more dilated and it made me progress in labor faster but it didn't make me go into labor.

@runnerd: 40w0d with my son, went into labor the day before with dripping water. Now I'm guessing this was prodromal labor, anyway they augmented me, I was 0.5cm and 80%.
from 2cm to pushing was probably about 17-24 hours.

With my daughter, 40w5d I was 2cm, had been in prodromal labor for 5 days. She never said how effaced. I arrived at the hospital 16 hours after that checkup and was 10cm and pushing.... No clue how long I was at 2cm.

LO1- maybe 1/2 cm when checked hours after my water broke at 35 weeks, had to be induced from there
LO2- 1/2-1 cm at 36 weeks, my water broke a few hours later
Basically, my cervix stays nice and closed, my water just breaks for some reason

DS1- I was dilated @2 cm at 38 weeks. Midwife gave me a Membrane sweep and I had baby within 48 hours.

DS2- I was dilated @3 cm at 38 weeks. OB did membrane sweep. A few days later I was dilated 4-5 cm. I went to hospital, wasn't in active labor, was told to go for a walk and when I went back they admitted me at 5.5 cm. Breaking my water got things rolling and I delivered 8 hours later.

@T.H.O.U.: It does get better, at least it did for me.

I was induced at 40 weeks with #1.
With #2, I was never checked for dilation before I went into labor. I had her at 38+5 and was dilated to a 6 when I arrived at the hospital.
With #3, I was dilated to a 3 at 37 weeks, and she was born a couple days later! :)

2nd - induced @ 40 weeks, 3cm dilated 70% effaced (baby 6 hours later)

For my first, I was 2-3cm dilated for almost two weeks. I ended up being induced at 41 +1 and when they started the induction, I was told I was almost 4. Didn't matter bc after 24 hours, i got stuck at 9 and had to have surgery.

For my second, at my 38 week check up, the midwife said I was like not even a half a cm dilated. I ended up having the baby later that night

Bump anyone else want to add if you were checked?

My first I wasn't favorable at all but was induced at 39w. I think maybe a tiny bit dilated.

With my second I was 1-2 cm but was also induced at 39w4d.

I'm hoping @Rainbow Sprinkles: third time gets better right?

I had an appointment at 9am the day I went into labor and wasn't dilated at all with my first (at +3 days). I went into labor at 10pm that night. I'm 36 weeks pregnant now with my second, but my office doesn't check until your due date.

Second pregnancy didn't make a difference for me. I was 1 cm at 39 weeks both times. DD1 came at 39+5 and DD2 at 40+5. I went into labor on my own both times. I got a membrane sweep with my second that did nothing. The second labor was much faster once it started though, which sort of makes up for that extra week I suppose.

With my first I was 1 cm and 75% effaced at 36 weeks (after 6 weeks of bed rest). At 37 weeks was 2 cm and at 38 weeks was 3cm. Delivered naturally at 38.5 weeks.

With my second I was 2 cm and maybe 50% effaced at 36 weeks (after taking it easy for a month, not strict bed rest). At 37 weeks I was the same and at 38 weeks I was the same. I was induced for IUGR at 38.5 weeks.

With #1, I was 4 cm dilated at 39 weeks and was induced a week later at 40 weeks. When I checked in I was almost 5 cm and hadn't had a single contraction.

I never had a check with #2 until I checked in when I was in active labor, at which point I was 6-7 cm dilated (in active labor). This was at 38+5.

With my third I was checked at 38 weeks and was almost 4 cm and she was born later that night.

for my first i never got checked prior to my water breaking. but after my water broke at 37w5d, i was at 4cm.

for my second, i was checked at 37w and i was already at 4-5cm dilated, almost fully effaced. ended up delivering a week later at 38 w.

i had short cervix issues with my 2nd so that was a big part of why i was already dilated and effaced but it ended up not mattering i guess and i delivered after i did with my first.

With my first, I was induced for medical reasons at 39 weeks. I was not dilated or effaced at all.

I am hoping I'll go into labor naturally this time. I know dilation isn't a good indicator of when labor will occur, but I'm just curious how your dilation compared 1st vs. 2nd pregnancy? Wondering if I may start to dilate a little in the weeks leading up this time (does second pregnancy make a difference?), or be closed tight right until labor starts lol.
