I would stop working, but that's just me. Better safe than sorry. I know that I would blame myself if I didn't take it easy and stop working when my body told me it was time and had an early baby (even if it wasn't in fact MY fault). I would still be hard on myself.

@Mrs.M57: That sounds like a very good plan! Being on bedrest @ 31 wks kind of blows, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Hope you keep the LO cooking a bit longer!!

Thanks for all of the feedback and support ladies :-)
@winniebee that had to be so scary! It scared me at 34 weeks! I'm glad you are putting your feet up and resting and that's nice that you can do some work from home

After some thought I did reduce my hours. I'm going to try to work a bit longer for 2-3 hours per day just to get my maternity leave coverage trained because she is a new therapist. Which is nice too cause I'll probably sit back and let her work with and get to know the kids. So, once she's trained im done! And doc said if I have any increase in cramps or bh I will have stop work all together. I have started weekly appointments early too so I'll get checked again next Monday with hopefully no or not much change! So we'll see how it goes, I may be joining the kick up your feet club with a couple of you ladies soon!

@Mrs.M57: Man, sorry to hear this!

While I didn't have any bloody discharge, at 30.5 wks pregnant (last week), I was having a TON of "braxton hicks" contractions. Turns out, I had a positive fetal fibronectin test and was 1.5 cm dilated and 50% effaced (with my cervix shortened to 2.3 cm instead of 3 cm). I was admitted to the hospital to stop the contractions and also to try get me a booster for baby's lungs (which is not needed after 32 weeks). Thankfully, I did not deliver and my labor stopped progressing, but have been put in bedrest....I'm a lawyer and can do some work from home, but have to remain totally off of my feet (really laying or reclining, if possible). I am told that I will be on bedrest until 36-37 weeks. Once the dilation process starts, there is no way of knowing how quick your labor can progress, so the safest thing to do is get off your feet (and stop working, particularly because you are in such an active field)!

GOOD LUCK!

I would get your doctor to pull you off of work as well! I wouldn't want to have a baby before 37 weeks, and it seems like your LO is eager to join the world! You could really make a difference by being at home and putting your feet up!

I would stop working and stay in bed.. ! I'm surprised your doctor didn't put you on bed rest. Especially since you're dilated and 70% effaced at 31 weeks!
** Jk. Just read that you're 34 weeks..
I'd still stop working though!
Good luck! Hope your LO stays nice in cozy for a few more weeks!

i would totally stop working! not worth the risk. i think the reason i'm doing so well with twins (i'm 38 weeks today and so far, no signs of labor) is because i haven't done much! i didn't commute to work (worked from home) and i quit before work became too stressful (end of feb).... i didn't work out, which is bad, i'm sure lol, but i think it helped me get this far.

Wow, I had some pretty strong cramping and a small amount of bleeding at 34 weeks also, but my doctor never checked my cervix and didn't seem concerned. :/ I'm now 37 weeks pregnant. I know it's scary, and I say do what your body is telling you to. If the Dr says it's ok to work and you feel comfortable with it, I say go for it. If your body is telling you to take it easy, then listen to it. I'm a nurse so I'm on my feet all day for 12 hrs at a time, so I definitely feel you on work being strenuous sometimes. :-) Good luck!

Did you tell your OB the details about the type of work you do? Because if she knows you travel around and still said you can work then I would just listen to her advice. Good luck though and hope the baby stays in there as long as possible.

@Mrs.M57: Oh..... I didn't realize that your job was so strenuous. I pictured you sitting at a desk. Yeah, in that case I would probably want to stop. Not worth risking it!

I don't see an issue with working as long as your doctor said it was ok. I'm sure if she thought it was dangerous she would tell you. Hope your LO stays in there a little while longer!

I am now 34 weeks 1 day. I had some mild cramping last night and a bit of bloody discharge, so I decided to call the doctor just to check. I thought that I was being over-cautious, but just wanted to check. My ob wanted me to come in right away. She checked me and said I am 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced and that my cervix is softening. She basically told me that I really need to start to be careful, because this means that I surely will not make it to my due date (May 7). She also said that she sees women at this point going into labor within 1-2 weeks. But that I could still work as long as I am not having a lot of Braxton Hicks. She said just to really pay attention to my body and as soon as I'm having 4 or more BH in an hour call.

I'm not sure how nervous/cautious to be here. I don't want my baby to be born pre-term especially not at 34 or 35 weeks if I can help it, meaning I have 3 more weeks. My hubby immediately said stop working all together! But, the doc. said it was ok to keep working. I feel fine, and would have never guessed that I was progressing already.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Would you keep working if you were me?
