I was 90% effaced and 1 cm dilated at 37+6, had baby at 38+1. Doc said it could be days or weeks and basically doesn't mean anything. I was happy it was days lol.

Just shy of 39 weeks, I was told I was 1cm and 90%. A week later at 39w, 5d, I was told by a different doctor that I was 1.5cm and 75-80%. My water broke 12 hours later! So now I'm convince that neither number means anything lol.

For #1 I was 3cm at 30w...don't remember the effacement but it must have been significant because they admitted me right away and put me on magnesium and she was born like 48 hrs later.

Just had my first cervical check for #2 today and they said I'm 1cm and 90% effaced. So....we shall see! I'm 36w5d today. And feeling pretty good!!

I wasn't checked until I went into the hospital in labour. I was 100% effaced and 0.5 cm dilated; I didn't even know that was possible. The nurses were a little confused, too, and they got the most experienced nurse on the floor to verify. After an hour I was 2.5 cms, and an hour after that I was 10! Very quick progression and I was so relieved when the epidural came. All in all, my labour was 12 hours from the first contraction until the bby came: 6 until full dilation, 2 more to allow the baby to descend on his own, and 4 hrs of pushing. And I still needed a vacuum assist due to fetal distress. My OB has said for my next to proceed to the hospital with my first labour pains, since the next will likely come quicker. Baby was born at 40w4d.

I wasn't checked for my first but for my second I had a short cervix since 20 weeks (abt 2.5 cm). at 34 weeks my cervix was barely there (.75cm I think) so it probably equated to abt 80-90%effacement. at 37 weeks I was 4-5cm dilated and I didn't have the baby until 38 weeks. So I lasted quite awhile being almost fully effaced.

At my 38 week appt, I was 90% effaced and 1cm dilated. I went into labor less than two days later, BUT even when I was in active, hard labor with continuous contractions, I dilated SO slowly.

I had first labor contractions at 7 ish pm on a Thursday....went into the hospital at 8 am Friday morning thinking I must be an 8 or 9 judging from the pain. I was a 3!!! At noon I was at 3.5 and begged for the epi.

Didn't reach 10 till midnight....12 full hours later. =/

My OB told me that effacement was the important number. That said, I was 80% effaced at my last appointment on a Tuesday, was told I wouldn't last the weekend, but nada. I was induced the next week.

With my first I was told on the Friday that there would "definitely be no baby this week" and she was born about 24 hours later. With my second, I was 3 cm dilated for about 6 weeks, and I was sure it meant imminent labour...but nope!

I was really dilated and really effaced with DS. I think at 39 weeks I was 4 cm dilated and at least 80%. With DD at 36 weeks I wasn't dilated at all and effaced and I had her at around 37 weeks! So crazy how that works.

First cervical check today and was told something new that I never experienced w ds1.

2cm dilated but cervix is still thick! I'm 36.5 and still have a ways to go but was curious about the difference between dilation vs cervix effacement and what it meant in terms of labor for you!

I also don't think baby has dropped yet. W ds1 I was at a 3-4cm with 50-80% effacement the last few wks and I still went overdue so I'm def not getting hopes up for less Than that to mean any imminent signs of labor.
