Our LO is 19 months old and quite a bit heavier, and we have been cleared for hylands or zarbees to help with cough. The doctor also highly recommends vicks on her feet. The reason for putting it on their feet at night (under pajamas or socks is so that they can't get their fingers in it, but still get the effect of the vapors.

I gave my 18 mo old DS children's Benadryl at the recommendation of the pediatrician because he had a full body rash. If you are comfortable with the recommendation, I would give it. However, if you aren't, you could try some honey or honey cough products that they sell at the drugstore, like the one by Boiron?

I took my 20 month (25 pound) baby to the doctor today and it turns out that she has a cold and an irritated throat. She has been coughing a lot the past week which is why I took her in and the doctor said to give her Dimetapp Cold and Allergy twice a day. I had thought you weren't supposed to give cold medicine to anyone under two. My doctor is generally very conservative about medicine so I just went with it and was going to ask my husband when I got home what he thought. So, is it okay to give her the medicine? She was coughing really bad this afternoon so I went ahead and gave her a dose because she sounds like she is getting a lot worse. What should I do? Should I trust my doctor or should I call back in the morning and ask for another treatment plan. I really do love and trust my doctor so I would hate to offend her if the dosage she gave me is okay (she went by her weight). Thanks!
