@winniebee: I just came back from Disney World, Magic Kingdom. DD is 16 months and she could ride everything but the roller coaster and splash mountain. I asked a cast member.

I brought my uppababy g luxe with me since there is a recline. The Disney World rental strollers are hard plastic that does not fold back so I was worried about naps. Worked perfectly for us because it was easy to find my stroller in a sea of disney strollers.

Winne the Pooh has a child play area so just ask the people on line if you can go to the play area and have someone wait online. It really helped us because the line was super long on a Saturday.

I hope that helps.

We took DD when she was 18m to DisneyWorld. She did great and went on every ride that didn't have a height requirement (which was a lot). We baby carried instead of taking a stroller because it was so much easier to hold her in lines and we didn't have to search for our stroller in the stroller parking areas or wait for space on monorails/boats.

I just took lo to Disneyland on Xmas eve, he is 17 months. We didn't go on too many rides because the lines were so long . We took it easy and let him walk around Sleeping Beauty's castle. We hung out in the princess area because it was extremely quiet. We took our own stroller (Stokke Scoot) and that's where he napped. I see people with nicer strollers buy locks for their strollers because they do get stolen even at the happiness place on earth. I will get one for our next trip. Here is a picture of the strollers you can rent at Disneyland.

Each park has a baby care center. These are quiet and have the nicest changing tables. They also have a spot to nurse or pump. They have high chairs. If you need a break, take advantage of these.

DD has been to disneyland over 10 times from 3m - 18m and we've never had any issues with rides, she absolutely loves them! We bring our own stroller but theirs are nice teal Baby Jogger ones. One thing I do recommend is to bring a carrier. DD is 18m and likes exploring so she hated being put into her stroller so we had to carry her a lot,

I took DD when she was 8.5 mo and we are going again this February (9-14th) when she will be 19 mo. I think this trip will be better because she gets SO into things now, but I am a bit worried about her getting overstimulated. We are going without hubby, and with a girlfriend who has a time share there. I am really excited and hope we can get her to take good naps in the stroller!

For rides, you'll be surprised how much he will be able to ride. Anything without a height restriction and he'll be good. If you want to go on rides that he can't go on, either use the singles line or do "baby swap", just don't forget to tell the cast members that is what you are doing.

I am going to start planning soon but one of the best things I did last trip was to pack diaper packs. Essentially I would place a disposable changing pad, one diaper, and a few wipes (in a snack size baggie) in a quart sized baggie and would place a bunch in a zipper pocket of my stroller. That way when I needed to change DD I would just grab a diaper pack and go. Much less to fiddle with.

They are much nicer and reasonably priced (at least I think) and I don't have to worry about losing it. But disneyland is much smaller too.

@brownie: I didn't know before now that Disneyland has nicer ones! Somehow I've still never been there. I'm kind of jealous, haha. Yeah at WDW they are pretty much just like the zoo-type ones. Luckily the stroller rental process is fairly painless, since it's a common problem for families with kids, there are companies that will drop the stroller off at your hotel room. Also, it's often actually cheaper than renting from Disney. I've heard really good things lately about Magic Strollers.

OP, I highly recommend the book The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids. It will give you details about each ride - height requirements, if it is dark, loud, has any images that may frighten a young child, etc. It also has suggested outlines for your day to help you plan things out more efficiently and not spend so much time waiting in line.

ETA: Here's a pic of ours so you Disneyland people can see how much better off you are stroller-wise, haha!

@brownie: I was thinking the same; the Disneyland ones are equivalent to your regular bigger sized umbrella strollers, with storage below and behind the seat part. Weird that the two parks have such different strollers!

@wonderstruck: Okay so the Disneyland ones are much nicer. They are fabric and recline and have TONS of space underneath. But if they are the hard plastic ones like zoo's have I wouldn't rent them either.

I haven't taken a toddler (my personal preference is to wait till they're older), but I worked there for a semester in college and have visited a whole bunch times - I completely agree with everyone saying you should NOT use Disney's strollers - the ones at Disney World, as others have said, are hard plastic and have zero storage space. Bring one or rent a better one from an outside company. I love babywearing but personally would not do it at Disney World.

What park in Disney will you be visiting? The answer to the rest of your questions about rides will vary greatly based on the answer to that question. But for Disney World, I highly recommend taking a break in the middle of the day where you return to the room so the kids can take a nap, swim, etc. Heck, I'm an adult and I still enjoy myself there the most if I get a mid-day break!

@winniebee: Ahh! I'm only an hour and 15 to Disney, so depending on how long you're here, we should try to meet up! And I'd bring an umbrella stroller with storage if that's what you have. Also, T can ride almost everything, so you won't have to worry about much other than Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Thunder Mountain Railroad.

@winniebee: we are carrying him no matter what even if we have a stroller. So I prefer my soft carrier (Like an ergo). We go to disneyland often so I don't know much about the world. But you should have fun. That was just about the time he started recognizing characters which was fun to see.

Also since you are going with people, take advantage of the baby swap passes. You put your family in the line and get a pass to go through the fast pass or exit when they return so everyone can get a turn to ride.

I'm impressed that many of you wore your toddler all day! I'm debating whether to bring the backpack carrier or maybe even invest in the ergo to back carry. He's not that heavy (can't imagine he will be more than 23 or 24 lbs then) but I'm small and my husband won't be there though grandma and grandpa will be.

We've done Disney twice at 14m and 18m (just leaving Disney now, actually!!!). There are lots of rides toddlers can go on; my LO's favorites are the Jungle Cruise and Its a Small World, and also the musical parade. She didn't love the Pooh ride but didn't hate it and was also great with Pirates and the Haunted Mansion. You can take them on most rides, just not the obviously fast-moving/jerking ones like Indiana Jones, etc. We haven't been on Nemo yet because the line has been outrageous, but I know kids seem to love that ride.

The Plaza on Main Street does a breakfast where characters (Minnie, Pooh, Tigger, Eyeore, Peter Pan) visit each table and say hi to everyone, which LO got a kick out of!

Both times I've worn LO all day and been fine (although we also rented a stroller just in case, didn't end up using it).

Disneyland or DisneyWorld? They can go on a lot of rides (even newborns). We have done Disneyland since my little dude was 6 months old. One thing to note is that you can't go on rides if they are in a back carrier. But we weren't required to take him off if he was in the front carrier. So we front wore him for naps so we could still ride rides.

We do naps in the carrier and in the stroller (if you are going to do that, bring blankets to cover it). I second renting the strollers from Disneyland if you don't want to bring your own. But most of the time he runs around or is in the back carrier.
