Cape May or Ohana for characters. Kona cafe for none. Too funny about asking advice!

What about the luau at the Polynesian. There aren't necessarily characters to meet there, but it's still a fun experience for kids.

@KJPugs ohhh okay. Also try ADRs for different sizes of groups - i.e, search for 3 or 6 people even if you only need 4 - I don't think the restaurant cares. I've never had any issue showing up with a few less or a few extra people to a reservation, we've always been accommodated. You may have better luck getting a reservation that way.

@MrsADS: no going in the park because it will use up our limited visits and it may even be blocked out.

We love Cape May NJ so maybe the Cape May Cafe will be fun! I'll keep checking for sure.

@KJPugs keep checking everyday for ADRs especially the day before/day of!! I think now with the cancellation fee (if you don't show for your reservation, it's a $10 fee per person) people cancel at the last minute and places open up!

How about Cape May Cafe at Beach Club? I think they have some traditional characters, or Ohana breakfast at the Polynesian... what about the Garden Grill in Epcot for dinner? In the Land. It's the "Fab 5" in farmer costumes! It's in the park but not such a horrible haul.

@kjpugs: You can always check close to time for cancellations? I'm sure you'll want to have a backup plan, but just a thought.

@wonderstruck: haha, I know, I figured I had to do a disclaimer! We just never do this kind of stuff- no reason for us to go to the resorts!

I really wish my mom had planned her trip earlier so I could have done this earlier!

I was SO CONFUSED to see you, of all people, wanting advice on Disney restaurants! Haha.

Character dining tends to book up pretty quickly everywhere, but the Grand Floridian has a restaurant called 1900 Park Fare that has super cute character dining themes, particularly for girls - breakfast is Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland characters, and lunch is Cinderella characters. Ohana at Polynesian also does a Lilo and Stitch one that is pretty cool. But I agree with @CibMomma: that Garden Grove is a safer bet for not being fully booked already.

The Swan hotel's restaurant, Garden Grove has character dining (goofy, Pluto, chip, & dale) on weekday dinners and weekend breakfasts. Also, the Yacht Club hotel has a breakfast buffet restaurant with Minnie and Donald and maybe a few others. The Boardwalk has Flying Fish restaurant and also there are a lot of fun kid restaurants in Downtown Disney. Hope that helps!

So full disclosure, DH works at Disney World so we go all the time. But we usually go to the parks. My mom and her BFF are coming in for their 60th birthdays over Mothers Day Weekend- we have no plans to go to the parks, but wanted to do mostly the resort pool and some restaurants at the resorts.

We had planned to do the Chef Mickey's character breakfast.... booked. I'm so bummed. DH is going to try to pull some strings but I need other ideas! Anyone have any fun for kids restaurant ideas there that aren't in the parks? Or restaurants where we can see characaters? My mom was SO excited to see DD meeting characters. But my pregnant self cannot handle another tromp through the magic kingdom and my mom and her friend are looking for relaxation, not the typical park experience.

Educate me!!!
