My mom told me that she used to have to feed me in a closet so that I wouldn't get distracted. :)

@Mrs. Sunshine: My DD is 6 months too and has been doing this on and off since 5.5 months. She just had two teeth break through but I'm hoping its part due to feedings and part due to the major developmental leap around 6 months.

I've tried not feeding for the first wake up (but doing subsequent ones), I think it was starting to work but then we had guests and we didn't want her to wake them. We'll try again this week.

My baby will be 5 months Thursday, and we have this problem! Sometimes, she won't nurse during the day because she's no nosey to what's going on around her with the dogs, someone in the kitchen, or looking out the window. But, she doesn't get distracted when my mom gives her a bottle. Then she wants to nurse more frequently at night. Little stinker. I take her into the bedroom sometimes during the day to nurse if I can, but if she knows my mom is in the apt (my mom watches her during the day), game over. She wants to see what grandma is up to!

@Mrs. Sunshine: my little guy is 6.5 months and has the same problem! I've had some luck with feeding in his room, switch nursing until he settles at the breast and I make sure he has a really good feed before each of his naps.

@Applesandbananas: I do sometimes but I tense up all my muscles when we cosleep so I often wake up sore, it's a lose, lose lol

It makes me feel better just knowing WHY we're having the "problem" it was driving my insane wondering why her sleep suddenly turned. I wish there were a better solution but I'm okay just knowing that it's normal!

@junebugsmama: good to know. Thank you!

Yes! My son is almost 6 months and he's been needing bottles in the middle of the night suddenly. We nurse and supplement, but during the day he's on a nursing strike and he will barely finish his bottles. He only wants to play! He normall has 1-2 night wakings and nursing will put him back to sleep quickly, but with my supply being low he someone's needs a bottle to go back to sleep :bummed:

Can you try to do side-lying nursing to get some extra sleep?

@Mrs. Sunshine: Totally normal developmentally! My son was like this. Just encourage frequent feedings during the day as best you can, but know that some people lose their supply from trying not to feed at night during this stage!

@Mrs. Sunshine: we have this exact problem. I have just gotten used to the night feeds. It's kind of a bummer because she is actually a great night sleeper, but baby's gotta eat sometime, I guess?

So we've been having more and more frequent night wakings with my almost 6 month old. She insists on nursing every fee hours in the MOTN despite having previously going a good 7 or 8 hour stretch without feedings. I know it's not a growth spurt because it's been way longer than a week. Between her feedings, occasional paci reinsertion and maybe having to help her get from her belly back to her back, I feel like I'm basically not sleeping.

Last night it dawned on me that her nursing sessions during the day have been a little shorter because she's eating just enough to not be ravenous and then is ready to play with her incredibly loud and distracting sister. So my question is, do you have any tips on how to help her stay foucused and get more intake during the day? Or do I just need to deal with her waking up to eat in the night for awhile?
