Gosh--we went through this too. It passed fairly quickly. I highly recommend trying to stick it out...pumping sucks! Maybe give yourself a timeline...if it hasn't gotten better in X days or X weeks, then give yourself a free pass to quit.

My DD is like that. She's so busy and always wants to move. I find she feeds well when I nurse her to sleep for naps and I try to offer often even if she only has a few sips. I feel like every little bit helps!! I've never considered pumping because I hate it, so I try to offer tons and nurse in a quiet spot when I can. Good luck!!

@kitty: both of my kids nursed better at nap time (I either nursed them to sleep or as they were waking up) so that might be something to try?

I hope it's just a phase for you. With my little guy, he started becoming distracted around 5 months and it only got worse as he got older. He was supplemented with formula as well, so after a while he would only nurse at night. Then in his 8th month he didn't want to nurse at night either. It was kind of a bummer, but he was completely weaned and also sleeping through the night at 9 months.

@Happygal: yeah I feel you on avoiding pumping, it's why I'm so conflicted about it! I guess it's just a short time in the grand scheme of things.

@Kemma: thanks for the hope! Fingers crossed it passes within a month for us too :)

The distracted nursing is annoying, but so normal. I tried everything to keep her focused, but finally decided the best solution was to roll with it and try to have a sense of humor. I'd avoid pumping bc it's not so fun.

My 7.5 month old son is so alert, and very mobile. He is super easily distracted during the day and I'm finding it hard to get him to nurse properly. I do feed him in the dark nursery at home, which helps but still is a challenge. At one point he was down to 1-2 wakeups per night, but is now back to around 3. He feeds much better at night, and the more focused night feeding in addition to the increased wakeups are making me think maybe he's trying to get all his milk at night.

It's making me consider switching to pumping and bottle feeding in the day, because he takes bottles really well and then just gets on with playing. I've been resisting this a bit because pumping isn't as easy as breastfeeding, but bf is not easy right now either. I'm going back to work when he's about 10.5 months so I will be pumping at least a little by then anyway.

Anyway, I'm just looking for thoughts/advice/commiserations - will this just pass soon? Should I just switch to pumping and get on with it? Is there another option I haven't thought of? He drives me nuts with all the pulling off the boob constantly!
