@Jennibenni: avocado, full fat yogurt, veggies roasted or sautéed in butter or olive oil , cheese and eggs....but don't stress too much, I did and it turned out my LO was just talk and thin. But perfectly healthy.

@macintosh: We've recently started doing solids on a regular daily schedule rather than just here or there, but he is so far not very interested in actually eating, he loves playing and making a mess. Hated avocado but we haven't tried yogurt yet, so I will!
@blackbird: Even in the dark he looks around! He just likes to flail around and wiggle his head I think.
@hilsy85: That makes me feel better! What would you consider high calorie solids?
@MrsSRS: We already nurse before naps, but I can't tell much difference in those sessions. Really the only time I feel like he consistently has a great feeding is his first wakeup at night and often the second as well. :bummed:

Unfortunately I think it's just one of those phases you have to ride out! My wee guy is nine months and he's impossible to nurse out in public unless he's reeeally hungry or tired but he seems to feed better now that he's put himself on a rough schedule.

We also started nursing before naps. Also high calorie solids. And it's not uncommon for breast fed babies to drop in percentiles as they find their true curve--my LO went from 40th at birth to 15yh at 6 months

It only lasted a few weeks. We also introduced solids, which I think helped. I don't mind one night waking but I didn't feel like he really needed more. But he also started to bite once he was done....so......no. I have a hard time nursing him around his sister because he will bite and want to sit up. I have the best luck in a very quiet room. And even then.....crapshoot. Maybe darken the room for sessions?

I don't nurse much anymore because DS had a nursing strike that turned into day weaning. He even got too busy for bottles now during the day. I have to keep offering the bottle after he wriggles free multiple times to get drunk at least 5-6 oz.

Can you focus on solids more? I know it takes time to work up to it my now that DS self feeds solids well 3x a day, he really seems to need less formula. Avocado and yogurt seemed to fill him up in the early days of BLW.

It helps us to nurse right before naps when drowsy.

@MrsSRS: Oh no! I'm sorry! The dr. did say that drop is common, but more so at the 9 month visit so that's why she was a little concerned. He is super mobile though in that he never stops wiggling his little body all over the place every second he is awake so I wonder how much that makes a difference.

@Truth Bombs: That is a good point, I didn't think about the comparison with formula babies. Although he did only gain a bit over a pound since the 4 month visit. He has never taken a bottle, but we are still working on it and have been trying sippy cups, straw cups, open cups, etc. If we can get him interested in drinking from something else maybe that will help.

A lot of moms switch to formula around 6 months so it's not unusual for EBF babies to drop percentage at that check up when compared to so many formula fed babies. I would look more at the absolute weight gain than the percentage. I would perhaps try pumping and doing some bottles during the day. Bottle feedings are usually faster so you can get more milk in him before he gets distracted. At that age my LO would definitely get distracted while nursing but at daycare she always sucked down every drop of her bottle.

No tips, just commiseration. My 7mo is nursing all.night.long. Ugh. Babies often drop growth curves near this age when they get mobile, so that might be a contributing factor.

LO is 6.5 months, and has been increasingly harder to keep focused on nursing for the last couple of months. During the day he is constantly distracted, looking around, popping off and on, etc. We only nurse in a darkened quiet room and i don't talk or anything. But our sessions are noticeably shorter and shorter. It seems like he eats just enough not to be hungry so he can go on with playtime.

Not coincidentally I'm sure, he has also gone from sleeping through the night to two night wakings, where he eats ravenously for 15-20 minutes. I'm sure he needs these feedings as he is not eating a lot during the day, and at his 6 month checkup he had dropped down significantly on the growth chart. The doctor was slightly concerned and said to really focus on getting him to eat more during the day. I'm concerned about his weight gain but I'd also like my night sleep back! Any tips?
