DS is 4 months and this is us too! My "secret" is the dark/quiet room, but also to give him a pacifier while I get ready to nurse him, then swap in my nipple when I take the paci out. If that doesn't work, I find that actually standing and walking around seems to work (while nursing). Usually I follow EASY, but if I feel like he is not getting enough I will get him sleepy before a nap and try then. In the evening it is the worst, and we've now been having DH give him a pumped bottle before bed to make sure he doesn't wake up hungry early!

@Revel: haha, well, you might be able to get away with not pumping! Maybe just nurse a little more often than normal instead! I'm just paranoid (and need the weekend milk to get me through the week anyway)!! But yeah, I had to give up nursing on the couch watching TV, which was such a bummer. :(

When DS hit 4 months I had to start closing the door and blocking everything out of the room except him and me. It worked but lasted until he was close to 10m.

@Mrsbells: Oh, there was a nursing/teething necklace I was looking at, that sounds like a good idea.

@Adira: Ack, I knew I was going to hear something about the pump on this thread! Ha, I will be trying all other strategies first. I guess I may have to give up the couch nursing for the time being.

Yep! Totally normal! At four months is when I had to start nursing Xander exclusively in his nursery. I used to be able to nurse him anywhere and everywhere, but now I have to nurse him in quiet room with the door closed so that there are NO distractions. And even still, sometimes he'll get distracted by the window and keep pulling off to look out.

If I feel he didn't nurse well, I pump after to keep my supply up. Then I'll just try nursing him again sooner than usual.

I know people get a nursing necklace which captures and holds their attention. I would sometimes cover her with a blanket so she would focus and eat

LO just passed four months and we seem to have dropped right in to super distracted feeding! She is tough to nurse during the day unless she is really sleepy, and she even didn't finish one of her bottles yesterday. Today she was apparently quite distracted taking her first bottle as well.

I know this is supposed to be normal developmentally, but are there any good strategies you all have for riding out this phase?

I assume she will just make up the calories with her night/drowsier feedings, but I don't want my supply to take a hit since I WOH full time.
