@Ash: we didn't have the money, but my husband put a new roof on my grandparents house in exchange for it. I felt so bad though because it was a 90 degree weekend and he worked his tail off and all he had to show for it was a chair he didn't really want in the first place...but he's a good guy!

This is the one I got:

@Ash: it'll be a while, lol. We don't find out the sex of the baby till the beginning of September. If it's a boy we are gonna do a Dr Seuss themed nursery and I'm thinking these fabrics for the chair... if it's a girl it's just gonna be super feminine, lol. The Lorax tree fabrics are quilting cotton, not upholstery fabric, so they'd just be accents.

@JamieLee: I wish I had 500 bucks to spend on a chair. :(

@MrsCB: we were at buy buy baby last weekend and honestly, hashed the quality of the chairs on display. You could feel the frame! We just weren't impressed. Maybe it was from being on display for years on end, Idk. Did you sit in the one you linked? Did it feel sturdy? And cushy?

@mrs. bird: I am so not into diy... I'd rather buy Hahah! Thanks for the links! My only issue is sitting in them first. I'm gonna show dh! You always find the deals! <3

@TurtleDoves: that's super cheap! I never thought to check ebay which is crazy cuz dh looks there for everything! Thanks! I'm so torn. Ahhhhhh!

We did! Best decision ever.
Our chair reclined and was super comfortable but didn't glide. I bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-5-Leg-Swivel-Rocker-Chair-Base-NEW-/390634506167?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5af3a187b7
And my husband nailed it to the bottom and it glides now! I love it:) I'd say my only complaint is that it doesnt rock in a huge motion. It is def enough to put baby to aleep and to be comfortable, but its not like it goes waaayyy forward or waayyy backwards, just a little each way. The good thing is, if it really bugs me, I can remove the base and buy another that has a wider range of motion, but, I won't because our chair is perfect for our needs.

i think DIY could be a fun project if you're into it, but if it's just a $$ thing you could probably get one for less than the larger ikea chair you posted.

if you're gonna slip cover it anyway- this one is a similar style & already a glider for $244.77 shipped but it says it may have minor cosmetic damage on the top
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B005RCLTT2/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&qid=1375630151&sr=1-13

or if you wanted a reclining glider this one doesn't have any damage to the chair but the box had some damage $343.32 shipped
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B005RCMDF6/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ

Have you checked out Buy Buy Baby and Babies R Us? I think they have several options in the $300-$400 range, which with a 20% off coupon would make them pretty reasonably priced. Considering the bigger Ektorp with slipcover seems to run $350-$400. And then no having to worry about the DIY part of it.

I tried this at one BRU and it was a top contender, and would be $320 with a coupon - http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13122563

I am in the same position as you and think this is what we are going to do. Mrs Lemon-Lime is right the chair is a bit snug and upright. My DH isn't a fan of it but I think it will just ensure he doesn't fall asleep with the baby in his arms lol. I did see a review of the chair online though saying it was really nice for breast feeding because it did offer support and you didn't have to fight so hard to hold LO up. The same poster said her friend had traded in her expensive cushy Pottery Barn chair because she was sick of struggling to get out of the chair with LO peacefully asleep in her arms. I found the base on eBay at a good price and we are going to make a trip to ikea soon to buy the chair. It looks relatively easy to complete so hopefully it turns out well!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: They have a bigger version:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79927587/#/S79875786

And I also found places that will so a slipcover for it too... so it wouldn't have to be white. :) I'm just not wanting to spend an arm and a leg. :(

Have you sat in the chair? A couple online commentators said the only negative about the chair is that it runs a bit small- Snug chair.

No DIYing gliders expedience. Goodluck!

I am having a heck of a time finding a rocker/glider that I like that isn't going to break the bank...
So after many hours of searching, I found this: http://www.ikeahackers.net/2011/12/turning-chair-into-swivel-rocker.html

Have any of you turned a chair into a glider/rocker?
