@blackbird: I agree! You have to know what you are capable of. I keep reminding myself this as I am doing prep for a baby shower I am throwing by myself. It isn't going to look like all the blogs but that is ok cause it is still going to look nice and it will be done with love. Either way the MTB is going to really appreciate it.

I do tend to get stressed around planning any party/event BUT that also has ALOT to do with me being a huge procrastinator. lol

G's party is in 24 days & I haven't done anything yet.... just sending the invites to print today. lol I hope to keep my DIY list small this time although it's growing by the minute! lol

Ultimately I REALLY enjoy the DIY & throwing parties so I'm okay with the short term stress I cause myself...If only I'd stop procrastinating I wouldn't run out of time & wouldn't stress myself. lol

@Mrs. Pen: exactly.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Agree. People just like casting the blame on Pinterest now.

I was afraid people would think I was high maintenance just for the sheer fact that we were even having a party! But meh whatever. At the end she had a great time and everyone had a lot of fun and enjoyed the food. That's all that matters.
Some parents get stressed out over everything! The thought of cloth diapering stresses me out. So I don't CD. Easy. :P

@Mrs. Pen: I think the pressure has been there long before Pinterest came about. Pinterest hasn't been around all that long. There have been party blogs around much, much longer, and I think they started the DIY craze. After all, most of the party pins on Pinterest come from those blogs!

I DIYed nearly everything for our wedding, and we were engaged before most of the wedding blogs were big/popular so it's not like I felt pressure to compete. I most definitely enjoy DIYing/crafting/designing because I enjoy it for myself, not because I want to impress. Does that make sense? Maybe not enough coffee over here yet :)

@Mrs. Jump Rope: oh I definitely do too. I love throwing showers/parties (throwing one for my SIL on Sat. and it's going to be gorgeous!!!)! But I don't think any mom should let pinterest-pressure get to them! It did bug me a bit when people made a huge deal about the party I threw for J like it was "bad", I did it just for myself, too extravagant etc... and I just did not appreciate that attitude at all. People here just don't rent venues for parties so it was a big deal and I just don't get it... I wonder if it stems from that self induced pressure... like if someone saw his party and how much time/love/effort I poured into it - they felt they'd have to do the same for their kid? IDK.

I don't think the amount of DIY equals how much you love your kid or want to throw them an awesome party. I just think there is too much judgment out there on both sides of this issue that really should't be an issue! Why can't we just do what we want and be happy without feeling judged or pressured?!

@Mrs. Pen: I love the DIY challenge. I love throwing parties. I guess it's the graphic designer in me? I go all out.... but I always have, long before we had a baby.

I think that the pressure someone would face for a birthday is mostly self-induced. I wanted a nice first birthday for J, but no one expected me to put together a huge DIY extravaganza. Even if they did - why should I let that bother me?

Maybe it's regional but any type of party here with any decoration not from party city or target is considered a huge to-do. People thought my party for J was excessive and it wasn't. The only reason I rented a venue was because we live in a small apartment and no family has a house with room to host, it was winter so outside wasn't an option. (shrugs)

My mom made birthdays crazy special for us without extravagant parties and I want to do the same for my kid(s)!

I think every mom should just do what they want to do for their kids parties and not let what other moms do get to them :)

I agree that pinterest and blogs fuel the pressure on moms to throw these super awesome parties. Sometimes I get caught up in it and have to tell myself that our kids will be happy with whatever we do and no one is happy if I'm stressed. I do love a good DIY, though!

I'm not on Pinterest. I'm starting to think that's a good thing. If a mom likes crafting, more power to her. I'm a little sad there's any kind of pressure surrounding a birthday. Baby A is likely to have cake and maybe a hat. That's about all I 've got for now. I like to bake, so I can see some fun baked goods in my future, but otherwise....
