Cam started sleeping through some nights around 8 weeks and had it down every night by 12 weeks. I usually put him to bed around 10ish and he wakes around 6am. He gets at least one bottle during the day but always breast at night before bed. We haven't done any sleep training, we just go with the signals he gives.

We did supplement with formula for his first 3 weeks, and I did notice that he slept better the nights he got a little formula before bed.

At our BF class last week, the nurse told us that formula fed babies typically do sleep longer (and can go longer between all feedings) because formula is more difficult/takes longer to digest than breastmilk.

LO started sleeping through the night at 10 weeks. Then she learned to flip onto her belly and would cry whenever she did. Once she got used to that, she started sleeping through the night again. At 9 months old her sleep went to crap because she would wake and crawl off her bed.
Now at 13 months, she'll sleep a long stretch of 8-10 hours, but has been waking up at least once between 4-6am. I feed her and she sleeps til past 7.
Hoping she sleeps through the night before baby #2 arrives!

Doubt it. I know lots of people with older kids who don't sleep through the night and they are way past the breastfeeding and formula stage.

I'm not a mom yet, but my mum likes to tell me about how she'd put a little extra formula in my last bottle before bed and thus I slept through the night from the time I was 10 days old. I'm sure this is frowned about now, but my mum was all about it in 1982!

Our LO has always been a good sleeper - when he was 7 weeks and EBF he would sleep "through the night" from around 8 pm to 3 am...I know I won't be as luck with our next baby.

@Mrs. Bee: yes, we did a modified (wimpy!) Ferber for both bedtime and naps where he learned to fall asleep on his own. But I didn't do any middle of the night CIO. The difference for me was at bedtime and naps I knew he was full and dry so I was okay with fussing to sleep. In the middle of the night I wasn't comfortable w that. But the wakeups dropped significantly after sleep training and so we had quite a few months of 6-8 hrs of sleep/one feed/2-3 more hours of sleep which worked great until he dropped that feed around 8 months on his own.

My son is 16 months old, he was formula fed and I can count on one hand how many times he has slept through the night. It's literally 6 times. I am not kidding!

I think this really is a function of his personality and his inner clock, not what he's fed.

@ohapostrophe: so that he went to bed awake on his own, but you didn't sleep train middle of the night wake ups? does he go down awake for naps?

i'm either going to sleep train in the next month, or just tough it out. olive just dropped one wake up so she's down to 3, but man i've been waking up 4+ times a night for 7 months!

@Mrs. Bee: and I should mention that we did sleep train, but only for going to bed for the night, if that makes sense. If LO woke up in the middle of the night I always went in and fed. So he did stop doing that on his own without any training.

We night weaned at 6 months and sleep trained simultaneously and I still have a baby that wakes several times a night. Some nights are better than others but I don't think it would have mattered if he'd been bottle fed or not.

A comment on another thread got me thinking... the commenter's baby started sleeping through the night at 13 months when she stopped breastfeeding. That made me wonder if Olive would sleep better at night if I only gave her bottles instead of breastfeeding at night. I know she's not always hungry when she wakes up because sometimes she just passes out as soon as I try to feed her.

Charlie was bottle fed and slept through the night at 4 1/2 months, but he was sleep trained...

When did your bottle fed or breastfed baby start to sleep through the night?
