@jerricabenton: When I had ds, my water broke at 32 weeks, so I headed to L&D and found I was already 4 cm and I never felt a thing. I sure did starting a bit after that, but it was pretty crazy I didn't feel that, either.

@katiew92081: Oh yeah - I meant the same as in maybe we are so tough we can handle the pain of the contractions - not that you'd have to be induced! Thank you! Good luck to you :)

@jerricabenton: Thanks for the info! I won't be getting induced unless I'm way over, cause I'm going to a birth center, but after the OB telling me today that I was contracted, I'm just wondering how long it'll be, now! Congrats on your baby!

@katiew92081: I did end up being induced - and after over 2 days it didn't even work so I had a c-section. So in my case, no - non-painful contractions did not count, lol! Although I have to say - I was on a huge dose of pitocin during my induction and while I never dilated, the contractions were strong and it never even crossed my mind to accept pain meds or anything. I felt uncomfortable for sure but it was never unmanageable - hope it's the same for you!

@jerricabenton: I'm apparently having this happen! I went to an OB today to get okayed to give birth at the birth center, and apparently I'm having contractions...I didn't even know that I was having them. Now that the OB pointed it out, though, I feel them, but they don't hurt. Did you end up being induced anyways?

after my water broke, i went to the hospital and they hooked me up to monitors to measure my contractions...only i didn't know until i peeked at my chart that i was having them. there was a note that said "patient having contractions every X minutes and is playing on her phone" LOL. i was like "what?! i've been having contractions?!" I only started to feel them after they started inducing me with pitocin.

This happened to me, I went to the doctor on a Tuesday and was 0cm. I went back Thursday and was 3-4cm but hadn't felt anything but a tightening (which I thought was BH). He was a little surprised I wasn't feeling them since I had made such progress. I was induced on the Sunday following (39w0d) and delivered 4hr after induction started. Good luck!

I was induced at 39 weeks + 4 days and did not feel the need for an epi and delivered my son with no drugs. super strong Braxton hicks contractions continuously, even regular timed 3-4 minutes apart the whole week leading up prior... It drove me crazy because I kept thinking, this is it! Then I would take a walk or have a small glass of wine and they would subside. Everyone kept telling me I would know when I had a real contraction and when the first "real" contraction came 10 minutes into pitocin, they sure were right - big difference! My water broke after 45 min on pitocin, so I was able to go off the pitocin and let labor progress naturally from there. The pitocin jumped started things for sure because I was not dialated prior and after my waterbroke I was already at 3cm.

I'm 35 weeks now with my second and definitely having strong regular Bh contractions already. But now that I know the difference in the feeling of BH contractions versus a labor contraction,, I imagine I still have a looooong few weeks to go.

Good luck to you on Thursday!!

I went to L&D last weekend with contractions that were 3 min apart, for over 3 hours. They weren't strong enough to dilate me though so they sent me home and told me they were braxton hicks. I've always been told Braxton Hicks weren't regular but these were. So. Everyone is different I guess.

Some women do have contractions without the pain. I didnt know I was having contractions and ended up in the hospital with preterm labor and dilated to 5cm without feeling a thing. When I actually went into labor when I had my LO I was just uncomfortable all day. The pain came when the contractions were 2.5 minutes apart. Good luck!!

@Maysprout: It is definitely hard to tell because I don't think I ever had any before these last few weeks, BH or real ones. Thank you - I hope they're the real deal, too - or at least the start!

@JerricaBenton: Hoping they just keep getting stronger!
I tried to figure out what different types of contractions were while I was pregnant without much luck but when I was having BH my stomach would stay super hard for awhile without any pain, whereas the 'real' contractions are much more like you are describing with the peak being the real action with a building phase and a resolution phase. So I hope they're the real deal!

@Maysprout: When I was watching on the monitor I think I felt the whole thing - it was like a rolling feeling until it got to the peak and then my stomach was super hard like it could explode and then it kind of rolled away.

@TurtleDoves: Ooh I'd love to go into labor the morning of the scheduled induction! Part of my apprehension is that I hoped to do it without the epi, but from what I hear, it's a lot harder when you have to be induced. I also feel like maybe I'm lucky enough to be able to handle some pain pretty well and I'd love to see what my body can do naturally, not on pitocin, but I know I just have to trust that whatever happens will be best for me and the baby.

I went into natural, spontaneous labor the morning of my induction (induxtion was supposed to start at 7pm). I (naturally) got all the way up to 6cm dilated and my contractions had not yet started to hurt! Like you, I felt pressure down there.
But I was offered an epi and I wasn't gona pass that up:) so I got it anyways. I will never know if and when my contractions would start hurting.
Pushing hurt like a mutherf-- though.

Hope these are some good warm up contractions and you go into labor soon!

I had an NST because I was overdue. I had been having somewhat painful contractions since the early morning and while I was having the NST had a couple of the painful contractions and some that I wouldn't really have felt except for looking at the monitor. They only seemed to look at the bigger contractions though and since they were still 10 minutes apart (the smaller ones were more frequent) and baby was kicking fine they didn't even mention keeping me. The bigger contractions got more frequent through the evening and I had her the next afternoon. But the smaller ones are still contractions warming up for the grand finale.

When you saw you were having a contraction on the monitor what'd your stomach feel like? Could you feel it the whole time or just at the peak?

They need to be happening regularly about 3-4 minutes apart before you're "hospital" ready. The ones you can't feel wouldn't be timetable so I guess wouldn't count?

You will know for sure when you're in labor! The pain will become unmistakeable! When I got to the hospital I def had contractions I couldn't feel as well along with the other ones. :)

@JerricaBenton: My water broke and I didnt go into labor on my own, that's why they ended up inducing me. Turns out my daughter's head was crooked and she wasn't putting pressure on my cervix to dilate it, even though she was very low. Good luck! I hope you go on your own!

ETA: Once they started the pit, things went REALLY fast and I dilated within a few hours though.

@JerricaBenton: You never know...... but your LO will come when your LO wants to come. Not much you can do about it but wait. Just remember, if your LO wants time to cook a bit longer, then that's why it's taking so long to come out. That might help when trying to be patient. Because we all know it's so so hard to be patient in the end!

@zippylef: Oh wow! I guess it's not so abnormal that I'm not dilated. My doctors know I'm not jazzed on the idea of induction so they are letting me go to my due date (I've had pregnancy hypertension) but one of them hinted that she thought I'd be overdue and have to induce at some point even if my BP weren't an issue.

@zippylef: I didn't really try but yesterday I was having like 4 or 5 an hour. I laid on my side and drank water and they were still coming...but I was able to fall asleep. Today I have had some but not as many as yesterday - maybe 1 or 2 an hour. Uggh, I just can't believe I'm not dilated at 39w 2d!
