@TurtleDoves: yeah, I will probably keep around some cheap ones or write my name on it. It's really not that big of a deal to me. I just find it funny really. Maybe I should start keeping the ones they give me. Then we'll be even! ;)

@mrskc: instead of writing your name on them, why don't you loan your cheap ones?

I only loan out my store brand plastic ones. I never loan out my heavy duty ones or glass ones!

NO
and NO.

I don't return tupperware nor do I expect to get mine back.
Key rule: NEVER loan something that you need back.

@mrskc: yeah it works two ways. 1) people have random tupperware at their house and see it and say "oh hey, this belongs to so-and-so!" and

2) people who might be actually wanting to steal it probably won't because they can't actually USE someone else's tupperware with their name on it - who wants to show up to a party with that and have to explain!?

@Smurfette: yeah, next time I'll try to do foil or baggies.

@LazyLightning: Why didn't I ever think about that?! That's a great tip!

Did you write your name in it? I write my name on the lid and the container in permanent marker. Then they are washed and returned. We have a big family and it would be impossible to remember whose tupperware was whose without a name. When my husband and were just dating and I brought food to a holiday, his grandma noticed I had my name on my tupperware and said "you're smart! if it has a name it gets returned!"

If I'm taking leftovers or sending them with people I will use the free ones I get with deli meat or use a plate with Saran Wrap so we don't have to worry about getting containers back to their owners.

@mrskc: My grandma does the same thing. She saves butter containers, etc for leftovers. I use paper plates and foil or ziploc bag. Then they can put in their own tupperware at home. I don't want to lose my nice tupperware. Or if I am having a bunch of people, such as a potluck, I buy the disposable ones, so I don't care if people take it.

Sometimes. Usually the only people that take tupperware are my mom and MIL, and I'm always taking theirs so I feel like it evens out. If I'm making something to bring to someone I'll usually buy cheap tupperware for them so I don't have to worry about it.

We had some family over for dinner a few months back and I sent them home with some containers of left overs. Well, they never gave me my containers back!

When family gives me containers of left overs, I always throw the washed containers on top of our refrigerator so I know which ones aren't ours and return them next time I see them. I guess I expect the same courtesy.

My grandma has started saving fast food containers to send leftovers home for people. lol I'm guessing because no one was giving her containers back.

It's really not a big deal. I'll just buy more. Do your friends & family return your containers? Do you return containers?
