K was the same! She did not sleep as a baby- it was maddening. Now at 18 m she seems to like her sleep a bit more.

Yes - DS1 never had a sleepy newborn phase. He was awake from the beginning. He still does not sleep much at 29 months. DS2 does sleep a bit more but is still lower than most babies, I bet.

@winniebee: My son was very similar to that the first two months. He was awake all the time and very unhappy. I ultimately feel like he was a bit colicky, and also overstimulated VERY easily. During the day I'd have to hide us both under a blanket to try and convince him to nap-even a little daylight in his nursery would distract him. He's gotten better now (3 months this week), and I'm also good at reading his subtle sleep cues so I can wind him down before he overstimulates. Good luck!

DD1 is this way. Her naps were one 20 minute nap a day. In the morning, not afternoon like everyone says. She didn't start STTN until 1 year. And it's only 7-8 hours a night. DD2 is 3 weeks old and I'm crossing my fingers this one will sleep. :bummed:

My LO was the same way. I was so frustrated by everything I read. It was like she was the inverse of everything I read that she should be. Instead of 40 minutes of awake time it was 30 minutes of nap and hours awake. I'm hoping LO2 sleeps more.

Both of my kids have always had low sleep needs. I had to stop reading and thinking about what babies are "supposed to do" regarding sleep and try to remind myself that every baby is different. Hang in there!

He sleeps less than my 2.5 year old! What I don't get is he will start showing tired cues so I go for it....and an hour or toe later he is still awake! Aren't babies supposed to sleep?

It seems that R has seriously low sleep needs. He only sleeps 9 hours at night (not altogether mind you!) and is routinely up for HOURS at a time during the day. Unless in the car seat. I try all the tricks (swaddle/swing/nurse to sleep). He is just awake. Yesterday he was awake 3 hours in the morning and then 2 hours in the afternoon as well as 2 before bed. Similar day today. He's 2m and it's driving me crazy!

Anyone else?
