@Ash: Build up that phone bravery! Your little guy will benefit from you being so strong. I think you're doing the right thing. I'd be in to see a specialist too after all that you've been through.

@looch: I also feel more brave on the phone and less apt to stand my ground in person.

@Ash: I am so glad to hear that! I feel like I was taken more seriously when I called to make an appointment to speak, as opposed to calling or stopping by the office, you know? It kind of tells them we mean business!

@looch: I called and the dr isn't in until Thursday but the nurse didn't seem to have a problem with my request. Now to call our insurance company. :)

@Ash: Here's what I would do...I did something similar when I need a referral to a speech therapist...I called the office and scheduled a time to speak with the nurse that handled stuff for our ped (she's the managing partner).

In the meantime, I called the insurance company to clarify the process and verify the benefits offered. Information is power.

@LuLu Mom: they mentioned it as a possibility at last week's appt so maybe I'll call and see.

@looch: I feel like they've brushed everything off so I was shocked when it was mentioned. But I don't think they'll bring it up again - I'll have to.

I think it depends on your insurance. We don't need referrals with our insurance but it's possible.

I would call and ask and definitely get an appointment with the GI. It couldn't hurt.

Do you feel like your ped is being supportive? If so, I'd ask if they have a rec for a gi specialist. Just having them make a phone call on your behalf could possibly get you an appointment sooner.

It will help you get in much faster, and it sounds like sooner is better in your case. Will your doctor give you one, this will move it up from months to days/weeks? We asked for one and our pediatrician had no issue phoning in the call for us.

I would definitely want to see a specialist after going through all that. But whether or not you need a referral will depend on your insurance, so I would give them a call and ask.

I'm at a loss... And need advice.
Long story short...
*ds is on nutramigen for bad tummyaches since 2 months old (he's 4.5 months now).
*He started getting eczema soon after. Brushed it off at pedi and gave us treatment options.
*Nothing helps it. Hydrocortisone lessens it but it returns after the 3 days of tx.
*The eczema on his head and face keeps him from sleeping comfortably.
*3 weeks ago he was treated for OM and put on amox.
*last Wednesday we noticed blood and mucus in his stool. Tested positive for c.diff.
*doing probiotics as tx to see if it clears it up.

Would you think this is a food allergy? Should we see a specialist? Advice?
