@Foodnerd81: we have Britax B-Ready, which is huge, and a B-Safe infant bucket seat. The stroller we hate check without a bag is a second hand Maclaran umbrella stroller. We bring that when we are going somewhere we don't need a car seat. Now that DD is almost out of the infant seat, I'm not sure what we will do next time we fly somewhere (maybe check our car seat in its box and gate check the Maclaren???).

@septca: What kind of stroller and car seat-- umbrella? Infant seat or convertible? I'm trying to figure out what we need for our car seat and snap and go stroller base, but I'm pretty sure DH has an extra golf bag (the first one will be full of actual golf clubs).

We use the bag my husband uses to check his golf clubs. It fits both our stroller and car seat so neither gets banged up or dirty during gate check. When we travel with our umbrella stroller, we don't use a bag - and I have seen gate agents drag it across the ground.

I used one. They are very inexpensive on Amazon. I was worried about wear & tear and general filth, lol.

When we traveled internationally last Feb, I ended up taking the umbrella stroller home with us. I've read that it gets pretty beat up, so I wrapped 2 soft blankets grandma got for DD around it with 2 trash bags over it. I packed it tight with tape everywhere so it was obvious it was a stroller. It worked perfectly! I especially loved how I was able to take the blankets home without wasting precious luggage space.

In your case, I wouldn't. We have an UB Vista and we fly A LOT so we bought a travel bag. But for a stroller that you'll only fly with once that wasn't a huge investment, I wouldn't worry about it. The gate agents have always been really respectful of our stuff. Once when I was struggling alone with LO the CAPTAIN ran down to the tarmac to get the stroller for me! I thought that was pretty sweet.

I don't think so. If it was a super nice Bugaboo or something, then I probably would. But one I plan on leaving somewhere not to be used much anyway? No.

Have you thought about just picking up an umbrella stroller at babies r us for $15. Thats what we did when we went to IL's. That way, if it was broken during flight, no big deal.

DH, DD and I will be visiting my father in Flordia this coming January. We're super excited since it will be her first time visiting Disney World.

For all you jet setting bees, do I need a travel bag for our stroller. We're getting a second hand Phil and Ted Smart stroller and I was thinking of leaving it in FL so we dont have to drag around a stroller with us on future trips. Do i need a travel bag for the stroller? Will the stroller get pretty banged up if I gate check it?
