@bree72: When it was time to introduce Milk I would put a little bit in the sippy and sit it in the corner of the high chair and not make a deal about it. I'd let them decide when to investigate and learn with it. It then became all they wanted and they did it on their own.
If the child can walk and essentially ask for it then it's time to move up to cups. Bottles are for babies in my opinion.

@Pumpkinspice: This is what I've always heard, as well. And it seems most people I know start eliminating daytime bottles and eventually move on to switching out the evening bottle. I started my 7 month old on the sippy with water this past month and he loves it, so hopefully soon after he's one I can get him off all bottles. Man I hate washing bottles and nipples!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I'm just not sure how important it is for us to get rid of bottles. It would be great if he would lose interest on his own.
He is not a huge fan of sippy cups. He'll drink water from them, but usually only a few sips. He mostly drinks water out of my glass at dinner.
It would be nice if I could stop pumping at work, but that would mean switching to cow's milk in a bottle, or a sippy cup, and he has almost no interest in that. But that's a whole separate issue.

Also, my rule of thumb was when we switched to milk it didn't go in a bottle. Bottles were only for formula (or breast milk) that's it. If they never get it in a bottle they don't expect it that way.

My LO is 15 months and I wished we had cut them out cold turkey at a year. Now she can ask for "baba" and will see them on the counter and throw a fit until she gets one. She will be thirsty and ask for milk, but if I give her a sippy she throws it on the ground until I pour it in a bottle.

At daycare she is fine with a sippy because thats all she has and all the other kids have them but at home its a mess.

I wouldn't, if I were you. That's so few, and he'll drop those before too much longer. Why hassle with it?

I think it's good to work towards it at 1 year, but it doesn't have to happen overnight. We eliminated DD's at 1 year (or maybe 13 months), and I cannot WAIT to get rid of DS's bottles, lol! I am so over washing /storing/ filling/etc... bottles. Sippies are so much easier!

My LO still gets a bottle after waking up, and one before bed if he wants it. I was a lot more strict with my first child, but we are more lax with #2.. He was taking a bottle while at day care in the middle of the day (he also gets milk at every meal from an open cup), but we cut that out since day care said he can't go to the toddler room while still taking a bottle during the day. He is 14 mo. Maybe you can work toward elminiating the day time bottle.

My children were on sippy cups prior to 1 year. I actually cringe when I see a walking baby with a bottle and not a cup. but, that's just me.
Each mother is different in how they feel is best. Only you know.

I read somewhere, I think alphamom, that it's important to stop using bottles after one year. My LO only gets bottles while I'm at work, other times we breastfeed. I was kind of dreading the transition because I know he really likes getting a bottle at naptime. He's pretty much down to one bottle before and one bottle after nap, the rest of the day he eats food.
I was waiting for my pediatrician to mention it, but she never did, and we just went for his first dentist visit, and he never mentioned it either. So now I wonder if it's really necessary to ditch the bottles or if we can keep using them. We don't let him sleep with the bottle, which I know is bad. Does anyone know?
