I bought a pair of $60 naturino fisherman sandals for DS at the beginning of last summer and he wore them every day until the weather got cold and they are still in good condition, Velcro and all! I just bought the same ones in a larger size for this summer. I figure I could probably find a less expensive version for around $30, but if they don't hold up and I have to replace them not only did I end up spending the same as the designer brand but I also went through extra hassle.

Yes, but of course they still last only a season before they're outgrown. I think mid range priced shoes are the best... the expensive side is not worth it, but we've had cheap ones break in two weeks and need replacement.

In our experience, it sort of depends. We have had stride rites that have lasted a long time, and one pair that fell apart in a week. See Kai Run has been similarly hit-or-miss. We have a pair of the target brand stride rite ("Surprize") and they have lasted really well. Sadly, I haven't found a great way of predicting which ones will last and which won't, though...

I think so but I refuse to buy full price for a pair of shoes that'll only last a couple of months. I like Stride Rite and Tsukohishi - you can find some pretty decent sales on Stride Rite's website and sign up for them and receive a discount and free shipping. I look on Zulilly for Tsukohishi shoes - they'll have them on there from time to time. Once in a while Amazon can have some at decent prices.

From the adult side of things, I think the higher quality shoes normally do hold up longer. I've had some cheapos though that hang in there for awhile!

The majority of her shoes have been hand-me-downs and 2nd hand purchases. I hate spending full price for these things.

The Tsukihoshi brand hold up amazingly well. I once had a pair in which the sole started to separate from the top after a few wears so I emailed the company and they sent me a new pair immediately as a replacement.

Yes! Stride Rite hold up amazingly! Also, I splurge on myself since I think you get what you pay for. That being said, I don't really buy designer brands. To me, I'll splurge on Hunter, Cole Haan, and Frye.

Definitely. I was only doing expensive shoes, then I got cheap ones for a change and they were thrashed within 2 months. LO outgrows in about 8 months to a year so I want it lasting the whole year. I don't have time to shop for shoes all year long.

I think "it depends". Nike doesn't seem to hold up really well, I've had some SKR that didn't do well (leather) but in general yes I dont mind investing!

I don't think so. The only "rule" I have around shoes is making sure that they are not second hand because the shoes tend to get worn in and molded to the foot. Heck, I wear through shoes the same no matter how expensive they are...

My son's shoes are wrecked by the time he's done with them, but that's because he doesn't have a huge shoe wardrobe.

This is one area where I tend to spend more money. We have been successful with brands like Tsukihoshi and Keen and they have held up very well. In fact, LO has been wearing one pair of Tsukihoshi sneakers since September and since they are machine washable, they still look almost brand new even though he wears them daily and gets them filthy.

I like to go to marshalls or tj Maxx to try beret brands for LO for less. They do hold up a bit better. I have bought her sneakers from target and they arent as comfortable as the nike ones i got her for the same price

Yes - I pretty much exclusively buy Nikes for DD1 and they are dirty when she's outgrown them but definitely still able to be handed down. I asked IL to buy her a pair of sneakers for Christmas. It's a generic frozen light up and the Velcro doesn't stick anymore even though she hasn't outgrown them. Asked my SIL to buy her a pair of sneakers for her birthdays and I went back to Nikes.

I buy more expensive shoes and they definitely last longer than cheap ones. I bought DS Keens two summers in a row and they held up perfectly. I bought DD a pair of cheap-o Keens knock offs and they were falling apart after 3 weeks.

I usually buy DD's shoes at Target and note that they wear out pretty quickly, especially on the toes. I have a hard time justifying more expensive shoes because she'll outgrow them so fast, but if they last longer it may be worth it. Do you find that pricier brands stay together longer?
