Yah didn't mean mama's boy... I meant a healthy but strong connection with your mom.

Like how dads and daughters are sometimes said to have a special bond, but this time between moms and sons...

@Mr. Bee - Thanks for the reply! That definitely helped clarify to me what you meant by having a special bond. I guess to me, that doesn't actually sound "special" because it sounds very similar to how my mom was with both my brother and I, so it sounds normal. Maybe it was special over my dad though, who wasn't as involved in rearing us. But my mom didn't seem to give my brother any extra attention that I didn't receive.

The bond I was referring to that I'm most familiar with is the one where the son seems very dependent and reliant on the mother, even once he's an adult and lives on his own. My best friend's significant other always goes to his mom for advise first and foremost and takes her side on things for everything, viewing her as infallible.

Yes, indeed. My brother and my mom have this bond that I can't understand. In layman's terms, it's probably he being a mama's boy but it's much more than that. My brother and my mom just get each other. A lot of women like my brother because how well he treats our mother and I suppose that's a great quality but I see that women are often intimidated by such a bond.

@Adira - I guess it's that my mom believed in me when nobody else did. When I was a kid, I had an accent, a bowl cut, and was pretty dumb. My mom had faith in my brother and me, and we worked hard to live up to that standard.

I think a big part of it is that in Japan, people believe that if you don't understand something... you're just not working hard enough. So we studied a lot outside of school, with flashcards, supplementary textbooks, and extra reading. Eventually that stuff paid off. Also, I started going to my own barber and got rid of the bowl cut.

In any case, I've never forgotten that my mom was the first person to truly believe in me. Her faith gave me permission to believe in myself, which changed my life forever. *sniff, sniff* Thanks, mom!!

I definitely think it's possible for moms and sons to have a special connection, but it doesn't always happen. I don't really think my brother and my mom have a special connection. They're very similar, personality-wise, but I don't think they are "connected" in some special way more than I am. I think my mom is more connected to me since we're both women and career-driven. And my husband's mom certainly ACTS like she has some special connection with my husband, but he certainly doesn't ask like they do, so I think it's more wishful thinking on her part, haha.

Honestly, the only boys that I know that seem to have a "special connection" with their mothers seem to be "mama's boys" and their relationship with their mothers seem to get in the way of their relationship with their significant others. For example, my best friend is dating a "mama's boy" and when she clashes with the mom, he always takes his mother's side over hers, which just leads to problems.

I'm sure that's not always the case with boys who have special connections with their mothers, but those are the only ones I've met... I'd love to hear more about your special bond with your mom, Mr. Bee!

I sure was crazy about my mom growing up! I don't think anyone can really understand me unless they've met my mom. So I believe that mothers and son can have a special bond.

What do you think... do moms and son have a special connection?
