I've washed all the non-electronic toys in our washing machine too. I let them air dry. When they are dry they will fluff up when I run my fingers through the fur.

We have these teethers and I noticed after I got them that they say do not immerse. Umm... they come in open packaging where anybody in the store could have touched/dropped/who knows what to them. I ran them through the washing machine and air dried them, with no real issue.

We have a dryer with a steam setting, so I usually just toss stuff in there.

@Foodnerd81: good aim!

@redsmarties: thanks! I was worried that I was missing something obvious. We got a small plushie with a plastic teether ring attached. Anyone know why that is surface clean only? Can it burst or make sharp edges? Compromise the plastic?

@chopsuey: truthfully that's what I've been doing too, but I'm a wimp about hot water, so I never feel it's as clean as it could be.

Live on the wild side, lol. I'll throw things in the wash/dishwasher if I want them clean, and am not too concerned about them getting ruined. Cloth books, etc - there's no REASON that they shouldn't be washed, really, so I take a chance and wash them anyway.

@Grace: @StrawberryBee: LO spit up on Sophie, right on top of the hole. I was worried about the mold thing but she needed to be cleaned. I think I just rinsed it under hot water and hoped nothing really got into the hole and I give it a sniff once in a while to check if it smells like rotten spit up or mildew.

I guess the plus side is she never chews on the spot near the hole, mostly the legs.

@Grace: yeah, I'd be afraid to get water in Sophie due to possible mold/mildew problems. Wish I could though, that's another thing I'd like to thoroughly clean!

I don't know about cloth books etc, but I was warned not to immerse Sophie in water or she will stop squeaking.

I put everything without batteries/buttons in the washing machine on the handwash setting. I usually put them in a mesh lingerie bag and wash toys all at once. I airdry but put stuffed animals in the drier on cool to fluff them back up. Never had a problem.

I have ruined toys by getting them too wet! But I'm talking about battery operated music toys and stuff- I used too wet of a cloth to wipe them I guess. Luckily they were hand me downs but it was enough for me to realize sometimes you have to be careful.

With cloth books- meh. How much damage could it do?

argh, why is it that so much baby gear, intending to go IN THEIR MOUTHS, is marked "Do not immerse in water"? How the heck is cleaning with a damp washcloth really supposed to get rid of processing chemicals, dirt from factory, etc?

Do you follow tag warnings that say "Do not immerse in water", or do you throw them in the washer/dishwasher anyway?

By the way, I understand the why for bath toys that have no way to expel the excess water. I'm talking cloth books and cloth toys mostly. Wouldn't putting them in the dryer or letting them air dry if thin enough get the water out? :/ I have a cloth book with drool destruction on it that could probably stand on its own right now, and surface dabbing isn't going to cut it.
