I asked my OB if she recommended the compression stockings. She said because I hadn't had any swelling or BP issues, and was late in the pregnancy it wasn't needed. However, my doctor did write a medical note for me, requesting that I be allowed early boarding so I could get a seat close to the bathroom. It sort of helped with swelling, but they still blew up when I get there anyway. I swelled horribly and had difficulties walking for a few days when I arrived. I didn't wear them on shorter 2 hour flights and they weren't truly necessary, but I did have some swelling. If you're already swelling at work you may want to pick some up just to be safe. Walmart and most drug stores seem to have them - I got the ones more like ace bandage material than like regular socks. I wore them for a 3 hour flight at 24 weeks and a 9 hour flight at 27 weeks. I still swelled a bit, but it would have been worse without them. I also wore them for car trips longer than 1.5 hours or I swelled. I got them at a local pharmacy. Walmart also had cheaper lower compression rating ones. Did you or do you wear any during pregnancy? How far along did you start? And does flight length make a difference? </p> <p>I'm currently 19 weeks, and none of these three flights will be longer than 3.5 hours. If I do need some for tomorrow, I'm assuming somewhere like Target, CVS or Walgreens might have them? </p>
