This is a big problem for us since we have two dogs who bark whenever someone comes to our door. But I don't want to train it out of them because it's nice to have the extra security when I'm home alone. We live on a pretty busy street with a lot of foot traffic, and my chihuahua sounds like a big scary dog ;)

I have a sign at eye-level saying "DO NOT ring doorbell... SLEEPING BABY! Deliveries: if signature is required, please knock SOFTLY." Then I have a card taped over the actual button to the doorbell itself that says "DON'T RING ME."

It's ridiculous but it WORKS. Except against my 6 year old nephew. Haha. And visitors always arrive chuckling at our door. I don't mind being psycho mommy if it keeps RJ asleep!

I don't have anything to add about doorbells but I am afraid to call my brother after a certain time because I don't want to wake up his son. I do text him since his usually the ringtone for texts are shorter than ringtones for callers.

We're only two weeks in, but we put a sign over the doorbell and on the door to tell people to call us instead of knocking or ringing the doorbell because our dogs bark very loud and wake her up. I don't know how we'll handle it when she's older.

@mediagirl: The FedEx guy just buzzes the other apartments, no matter what notes or numbers we leave with them. It's often a different guy, so we can't just ask them in person to handle it differently.

It happens but luckily we've made sure to make a lot of noise so the LO doesn't wake up. In the first 10 minutes of putting him down is the crutial Part and usually the phone rings. Almost Everytime. :/

ugh I dread this. we don't have a doorbell, but if anyone opens the front gate or knocks on the door my dog FLIPS THE F OUT. You'd think he was an attack dog..he's only a sheltie! We're working on barking now with a spray bottle (we've tried everything) and it's not really working..he just runs to another room and barks.

I'm very likely going to LOSE my mind come September.

Our mail man ran my doorbell the other day when LO was napping. I had to sign for something things, and of course the dog barked and LO started screaming. He was so nice and appologized for disturbing my baby, so I couldn't be mad at him. He was only doing his job.

Um, I am much less gracious. Our dogs bark when you knock on the door, but not at the bell. So when someone knocks I get LIVID if Charlie is asleep. Once it was a newspaper salesman, and I must have looked like a crazed banshee when I opened the door and screamed, "I"M NOT INTERESTED, LEAVE ME ALONE!" To my defense, I'd gotten maybe 4 hours of sleep the night before. I should get a Do Not Knock sign or something!

@Rubies: Ugh. so annoying! Tell DH to tell them not to ring the doorbell. I had a sticky on the door for a while "SLEEPING BABY. DO NOT RING DOORBELL." Then I decided I didn't want people knowing I had a baby so I took it off. People is crazy and might steal her. :P

YES. I GET PISSED and say "WHO The F is ringing our door?!" I say "eff" since I stopped cursing on Jan 1 :)
I get pissed when stupid cars honk their horns too. Really? Is it necessary?!
Sad about your neighbor! Hope the doggie is okay.

That's one thing I dread when our son arrives. Our dogs go insane at the sound of the doorbell. I may have my husband unhook it for a bit.

The infant that I nanny now sleeps through the doorbell and the dog barking. I hope we are blessed with a good, heavy sleeper like that little man.

Yes! My in-laws! Whenever they come over for dinner, it's always after LO goes down so I *always* leave the door unlocked when it's close to their arrival time so that they can walk right in. But every time, without fail, they STILL ring the doorbell!

Charlie and Olive had just gone down for the evening, when someone rang our buzzer for almost ten seconds. TEN SECONDS!!

I was so upset... ten seconds is so long, and it had taken so much time to get both the kids down! I figured it must be the FedEx Ground guy, who is forever tormenting us with buzzers after the kids are sleeping.

But it turned out to be our upstairs neighbor; a car had hit her dog and she wanted to get back into the building right away. Why did she ring my doorbell when the key must've been right in her pocket? She must've been beside herself with worry.

He (the dog) seemed ok, but she took him to the animal hospital to make sure. I hope he is ok!!!
