Yes, it's nice to talk about life outside of work with them - I ask them about their spouses, pets, and children (if applicable) too. Most of my coworkers have older or grown kids, so they usually say something along the lines of "they grow so fast... cherish these moments" - I'm sure it would've annoyed me when I was in the thick of the baby baby stage, but these days I nod my head in agreement and pick their brain on how its been for them watching their children grow.

@mrsjyw: haha, yes! The kid is two years and change, and people still ask how the baby's doing! I don't think anyone's noticed the tummy yet, but lately I have to pause before I realize they're asking about B and not this baby.

A few co-workers ask regularly, mostly the ones also with young kids. And my boss of course, she knows everything about everyone's family  it's just that kind of office.

Yes, I work in HR and several times every day associates ask about him. I am grateful they are interested but I feel like a broken record, saying the same thing over & over. Really, what do you say to a casual inquiry other than "he's good" or "getting big."

Yes, but I work at a really small place (only 5 of us full-time) and 2 of my co-workers hang out with us outside of work.

At least once a week a random coworker will ask about my boys. I just typically say they are growing too fast...most people can commiserate.

Yes, my boss and several people on my floor have kids close to the same age, so we chat about our kids. Also, when you come to my desk, you are looking right at my bulletin board which has a couple pictures of LO, so people see the picture and ask.

I talk to several coworkers about her daily. Most have toddlers or baby fever. One woman has teenagers and asks to see pics and videos once a week and asks about LO pretty much daily. I compare sleep notes briefly with a cube mate every morning and tantrum notes with another cube mate every few days. That's just our regular greeting.

The higher ups ask every six months or so. To them I usually just say, "she's growing every day. She's (age) now." So they don't ask totally age inappropriate questions if they want to talk more. Like, is she eating solids yet - um, she's 2.

When she was going through her medical issues, my boss asked every couple months how she was doing and my coworkers and I talk a lot so they were always up to date on her a her crazy happenings.

They do! It's nice to get to talk about her. I try to keep in short though, because so few of us have kids.

Occasionally. A lot of my co-workers have LOs around the same age as mine, so we talk kids pretty regularly (but not every day).

And how do you respond?

I always get the how's your baby doing? (From ppl I don't see every day) So my go to response is, he's getting big! Not so little anymore! Ppl are usually shocked to find out he's past 2 already!
