During my induction I got dehydrated (forgot to drink water) and during a non stress test, the babies heart rate was really high. They had me chug fluids for a few minutes and her HR came down almost immediately. Next pregnancy I'm absolutely drowning myself because it was scary watching her be in distress because I hadn't filled my water glass in a while.

Drink drink drink ladies.

Yes! I always felt new resolve to drink more water after leaving my OB appointments. He recommended 80oz/day.

I agree that you should drink more water, but if it makes you feel better I think a ton of pregnant women have dark pee. I know this because occasionally at my OBGYN they'll take my BP in an alcove next to the bathroom and one wall has that trapdoor where you stick your pee cup. If it's afternoon and it's busy sometimes there's lots of pee cups waiting to be tested and I'm always shocked by how many cups have really dark urine in them! So I pat myself on the back if mine is the lightest.

YES.

I was always told that water helps with swelling, not causes it, though! When I'm dehydrated, I feel puffy and gross. When I'm hydrated, I'm annoyed b/c I pee a lot, but I always feel better!

I think we're supposed to drink 64 or more ounces of water. I'm far from drinking that much. =( Some days I easily meet that goal, some days it's =\ . I feel bad that I'm "depriving" my baby of the water.

@JoJoGirl: That is scary! Glad baby and you are ok.

Just be careful too, my doctor thinks I was drinking too much water which was causing me to swell and gain water weight.

YES. I'm considering making a PSA thread about this. I had symptoms of pre-term labor last week my midwife said were from dehydration. I had around 36 oz of water a day for 4 days. She said I should be drinking 4 liters/day, an extra if I work out. Your pee should be clear.

@runnerd: Yes, you need a lot more water, in my experience.
I used to drink roughly 2/3 litres of water a day pre-preg and urine was clear.

I was on prenatals over three months before I got pregnant and they didn't affect my urine at all.

One of my first symptoms of pregnancy was that my urine got much darker and I knew I had to up my water intake. My FMU was the worst. The only way I could get that semi-normal was to drink about double what I drank to be hydrated pre-preg.

You have 50% more blood volume when you are pregnant. Extra water is absolutely vital for the kidneys to be able to process all that extra blood.

Good Luck

My prenatal and any extra B vitamins turn my urine Gatorade yellow for a few hours!
I do feel like I need to drink more than usual but it sounds like you are drinking plenty.

are you taking a new vitamin? some prenatals and other supplements have dyes that change urine color.

i was told to shoot for 100 oz per day while pregnant.

I have a 28oz water bottle that fill up and drink from 2-4 a day (more on workdays). My urine has always been very clear - but since getting pregnant, my urine is bright yellow most of the time when I pee. I have a hard time believing I'm dehydrated, but maybe I need even more water now?
