I think more often than not they are falling in lust and/or falling in love with the idea of love. I wouldn't personally do well on a show like that where my man was kissing and possibly sleeping with other women.

I kind of think of all the ways you could possibly meet someone you're compatible with, "Why not" a reality show? Do I think it's the perfect formula for creating a fail safe match... absolutely not.

@looch: Well, romantic love has been a theme in literature for hundreds of years, so it's not that new a concept. Marrying for love is something else.

I think some of them fall in love, but the majority are just wrapped up in the whole crazy atmosphere. I've heard that they keep a constant supply of alcohol to them, no entertainment (like tv or internet) beyond the activities they do with the bachelor, and on the opening night they don't give them anything to eat really either. So they're all drunk and bored and the only thing they've got to focus on is the bachelor.

I've never watched an episode, but the fact that Shayne Lamas "won" one year and is now married to gross Nik Richie... I say no.

@mrbee: I ask myself the same question. I am turned off and drawn to the show at the same time. Its confusing and fascinating how they suddenly develop feelings

I think it is possible, although it's a very low chance. The 1st ever bachelor couple got married and it was their 10 year anniversary! So you really can't say it doesn't work cause ONE couple at least made it! There are other couples that got married, but time will tell whether they work out in the long run.

And I think the other ones do "fall in love", but later realize they don't fit/work together. And then there are those that you know are just in it for fame!

You know, romantic love is such a recent concept that sometimes I wonder how many of us are really in love. Just a few generations ago, arranged marriages were the norm.

So, I think it's possible.

All the glamour, fame and exotic dates, I have a hard time believing in it. If I was in that situation, i'm pretty sure i'd be wrapped up in the competition. Let's not forget about the free wedding you can get out of it!

umm most of the time, no. But there have been a few couples who have ended up married, seemingly happy. I think its crazy how in love they think they are after 6 weeks or whatever the filming schedule is. I think competition definitely fuels a lot of the participants to think they are feeling more than they are.

I think people who go on shows like that have a different definition of "love" than most of the rest of us.

Is the love fueled by competition with all the other contestants? I don't really understand how it works.

If I was seriously dating someone who was seeing other guys, I don't think I'd fall more in love with them. I'd be out of there. But who knows... I've never been in that situation, so I'm just guessing.
