I wore a uniform in HS (catholic school) and absolutely loved it! I'm so excited for my girls to wear uniforms as well - life is so much easier all around. When I was in school, I wished they had. They made the dress code so specific that it was a pain to find clothes at times. I love dress code and wish ms would go for it--but it would never go over here. It took me a while to get used to it, coming from Canada where it was only private schools that did (even then, they were usually guidelines rather than actual uniforms). The school i teach at now is SO strict on uniform! And it really is uniform. No variation whatsoever allowed from kid to kid. I kind of see the benefit but I'm still on the fence about it all. I'm actually a fan (of general uniforms, not specific brands you have to buy which are $$) since I think it cuts down on the status race, simplifies getting ready in the morning, and is probably cheaper as they get older and would otherwise want more outfit diversity. I think it's by school and parents can vote every few years, actually. However I do not mind uniforms. I wore one my entire school life, and while I complained about it in middle school, by high school I was glad to not have to worry and in college I missed it! I wore a uniform in high school, it wasn't bad, I actually enjoyed it, less to think about in the morning. The days that sucked were the non uniform days! Honestly, I wish we did. The dress code issues are RIDICULOUS, I totally get individuality however when half your students come to school looking like they're ready for the club it causes more trouble than it is worth. FWIW, I'm jaded about the whole thing because administration does not enforce what the dress code is (and I think yoga pants should 100% be allowed!). Navy or khaki pants, navy or white or gray polo shirt. That sounds miserable! I would have hated having to wear a uniform when I was in MS.
