@birdofafeather: haha, I'm a wedding planner and I often call my couple's parents "mom" and "dad", mainly because I can never remember their names! But now I'm going to have to think twice, didn't consider that it might not be appropriate. Oops.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'm a wedding photographer and during family photos, I use "mom" "dad" or whatever appropriate word I can to do family photos! The times I try to use names, it's worse and every one is confused!

Mr. or Mrs. if they have the same last name as their child since I look at it in my grade book a bunch of times a week.

Edit: I read this question wrong. I was thinking of it from a teachers point of view. I think because I am in the midst of parent conferences for my own class. Yes, I am called mom by LO's teachers but I know they know my name bc they had a conversation about my name being the same as someone else.

My last name is different from DS's, which teachers don't ever seem to catch on to right away, so I usually get Mrs. DSlastname instead of Mrs.mylastname for a few months.

We don't have school, but for extracurriculars and appointments we always get mom and dad. The lack of personalization is a bit of a bummer, but I think back to my teaching days and I did it as I was trying to learn names.

Honestly can't remember what daycare calls me, but the medical assistant and other on call peds at LO's checkups or sick visits just call me "mom." As in, "mom, hold his elbow while I give him a shot." I dislike it, and sometimes I've asked them to call me by my first name. Sometimes I don't have the energy.

cc @Mrs. Jacks: It makes me feel like they can't be bothered. And we've certainly been there enough.

We get a mix at our daycare. If they are talking to us it is a first name basis. If they are talking in general it is LO's mom or dad. Some teachers I don't see too often and they just call me mom.

Last year the teacher called me by my first name. I was also room parent and became very close to her. She addressed my husband as "dad" though. This year the teacher calls me mama. I don't think she knows my name. Most of the time she doesn't address me at all so I don't really mind.

At school: Mr./Mrs. Last Name
Pediatrician/Dentist: Mom/Dad

While "Mom" isn't my favorite, I don't mind it. In medical offices it might be used because it's usually in the presence of our children, and that's how they refer to us?

They call us by our first names. Or if they're talking to other children, they'll refer to us as "X's mommy" or "X's daddy". They have all of the kids take a picture and they put it up on the wall, along with their birthdays and names of the parents. So they all knows all of the parents names. I don't think I'd like to be called just "mom" either.

I used to be a teacher and I'd generally avoid saying a name at all unless I knew the parent well. If I was talking about the parent to the class I'd say "So-and-So's Mom".

I felt like saying Mr. or Mrs. was complicated for two reasons. Firstly, I can't assume that they have the same last name as the kid. And secondly, I felt like that would make me sound like I was a kid.

I also avoided first names (with the exception of a few) because I had a hard time remembering all of them. (I had around 50 students.)

@mrbee: Yes we got called "mom" and "dad". I actually liked it until I realize the other kids start calling me "mom" too. Now I am unsure. My son probably thinks all women are "mom"s and all men are "dad"s. Now I know why he just point at random men and say dad?

And OMG. You are like me in terms of avoiding to refer to my in-laws!!! hahahahaha! I thought I was the weird one. Now I call them grandma and grandpa. But before that, I just avoid that.
