I had this- http://m.target.com/p/fisher-price-space-saver-swing-baby-seat-luv-u-zoo/-/A-13270131

It's small enough to move around but has both swing and vibration settings. We mostly used it as a seat though since LO could have cared less about the movement.

Like others have said, it's hard to say! Mine loves the snuggabunny swing, but isn't a huge fan of the Mamaroo. He will nap in the Rock n Play, but won't nap in the Pack n Play.

For us having a swing downstairs and a bouncy chair upstairs worked great. I didn't have to lug anything up and down the stairs and felt that I had a safe place to put LO down. The swing was absolutely essential for us for naps downstairs and somewhere for him to chill. The downside is how short-lived this type of gear is. It felt so necessary in the early months but at about 5-6 months we really stopped using both.

It's hard to say until you see baby's preferences. We had a RnP and a hand me down swing. We used the rock n play all the time, but the swing rarely. LO was just meh about it, and it takes up a ton of space, so I don't think we needed the swing. The RnP is small enough that you should be able to fold it and go up stairs easily.

We have a PNP for napping and night time in our room, we've got a Mamaroo in the livingroom and a vibrating chair that I move into the bathroom while I'm showering, kitchen while cooking etc..

To be honest I was really excited about the Mamaroo when we got it, turned out she hated it in the beginning, hated it. Now she's 6 weeks old and if I get her to sleep, turn it on, put her in and turn on the white noise she'll take her longest nap there. She doesn't love it while awake, but then again she doesn't like the chair while awake either! You never know. Have you looked at craigslist for a Mamaroo, I found ours on there for $125 brand new with tags.

Sorry it's hard to say until baby is here! Mine hated the mamaroo and barely tolerated the snugabunny. We could've easily skipped both. I've not heard of many babies liking the mamaroo just parents that think its cool. It's very slow.

For us, RNP was for sleeping/napping upstairs and the swing was for the same downstairs. I would buy a normal swing over a Mamaroo -- cheaper and better bet of actually soothing your baby over the Mamaroo (many people say they just don't go fast enough, and I also think it's crazy they don't have a five-point harness.)

@Foodnerd81: In that case, I also carried P in one hand & the rnp in the other at times... just not with her in it when going down the stairs. lol

Oh I should add we have a medium sized dog, so I feel more comfortable leaving them together briefly when she is in the RnP more so than if she is flat on a playmat or something.

We moved our RnP up & down the stairs just fine... usually with P in it going up at night, but not down since it was harder to see where we were stepping... I'd just let her chill on her playmat while I went up to get it in the morning (or after coming down for the day). It worked really well for us.

As for the swing.... I've had 2 kiddos & never had a swing. I find them to be a not necessary piece of gear.

Honestly, yo won't know until you have your baby. We have a rock n play and my LO has never slept that well in it, or tolerated it for too long when she is awake, so i've often wished I had a swing to see if she'd nap better in it.

But she's 10 weeks now and sleeps in her crib at night so I feel like its late in the game to spend the money to buy one now.

Are you thinking of moving the rock and play up and down the stairs throughout the day? I wouldn't want to do that personally. Our apt is one level so we move it around easily but going up and down stairs would be annoying. And are you planning to use it for sleep or just hanging out?

We use out RnP all the time- she sleeps in it, first in our room and now in her room, and hangs out in it sometimes during the day. But she hates her swing and bouncy chair so I can't speak to that. I think you want some kind of seat on both levels.

I have heard most people say the mamaroo wasn't worth it and that most babies end up not liking it. Never tried it but again, I've got a swing hater here. Luckily mine were both hand me downs!

We have a smaller house that is two levels so we want to keep baby gear either a) on one level or b)easy to move. We purchased a rock n play that vibrates as a good portable option to set the baby down in and we have a pack and play although I dont think we will use it at home much because it is so big. Originally we had a mamaroo swing on our registry and are now trying to decide if we should buy it. What are your opinions? Rock n play good enough for a place to set baby down or is a swing a another good option? I know not all babies like the swings but for those of you that had them did you find they were disposable or essential? Help me decide!
