And I knew I wanted to change that but with both of us working and not getting home until 5:45, it was a lot easier to feed DS1 and then make our dinner after he went to bed. Once DS2 was born and I was on maternity leave, I made it a point to eat together as a family. It is so ridiculously stressful and even more so now that I'm back at work since I somehow need to get home, feed the baby, and finalize the meal so we can eat by 6:15. Most of the time, I have to just shovel food into my mouth since the baby is hungry and/or tired and I just need to get through dinner so we can start bedtimes. But, I love it. I love that we're feeding DS1 better food and that he's come to love it as well. If I do, I still sit with him while he eats. It's rare he'll let me not sit with him anyhow. Sometimes I'm the only one really eating, sometimes they eat really well but all plates are tabled and we sit down at the same time to eat. I don't force them to eat though. During the week my husband gets home from work right before bed time when LO has already eaten. Dh isn't home by bedtime, so while I could eat with her and give him leftovers, it's nicer for us to eat our dinner together, then usually she gets the leftovers the next time. I feel like we should more often, but I do eat breakfast and lunch with her every day, and we eat at least one dinner as a family on the weekends. She's a good eater so I'm ok with it. Eventually I know we will have to change but for now it's just nice to be able to eat a meal with my husband. If he was home earlier I would do family dinner more. The only night we don't is when I go to yoga & I eat after our son is in bed (but he and husband have dinner together). Our son is 3 & this has been or routine since he was 2 or so? I don't know what it'll look like when LO2 arrives but i hope we can still eat together. My youngest is in feeding therapy, so they promote eating as a family. But sometimes on special occasions well grab take out after they go to bed. Not going to lie, it's made dinner a lot less stressful at times BUT I do enjoy sitting with them (when they aren't asking for a million things) and eating dinner. Do you always eat dinner with your LO, or do you sometimes/always eat at different times?
