Neither of us would want to use up vacation days from our jobs sitting in a hotel while the other one worked all day, and we could only have fun together in the evenings. We like our vacations to be real vacations. Having said that, though, I do a fair amount of travel for my job, and I'd love it if my husband were in my hotel room when I got back every night. FIL is a professor so the conference panels step-MIL attends are all academic article review panels on very specific topics that she has said don’t interest her (they are the topics FIL specializes in). She also often tells people at the conferences she is my husband’s birth-mom when she is not (my husband is a professor too, so he is also usually at the conference as well).
