My husband has 5 weeks vacation, I can take as much or as little as I want as I am a contractor.

When I was a SAHM, I used to travel with our son, to visit family without my husband for up to three weeks every summer. I loved those trips!

My husband has 5 weeks/year and I have no set amount (small company) which means I can take off for anything I need (travel/holidays) but I can't really take off for no reason. Every day I take has to be approved so I better have a good reason to need it. Obviously 5 weeks/year is a ton so my husband has way more time than me. Usually he just takes off a bunch of random time. Especially at the end of the year, because he just isn't that busy, he takes off like a full 2 weeks at christmas, a week around thanksgiving, etc.

I have 3 weeks, hubby has 2, but his includes sick time (lame!). He and my FIL run a family business so it's very hard for him to take time away. I have to get really pushy when it comes to vacations!

I have 4 weeks and DH has 3, but his boss is supercool about letting him have a day off here and there be cause he does a lot of work from home after hours or on the weekend and he travels a lot. He also can work from home, so when LO was born, he didn't really take vacation, but he got to stay home.

I think him taking your LO by himself is a good idea. My brother has done that with their youngest (only one not in school) and it worked well for them.

I think your idea is great. Maybe you wouldn't need to take a whole week of your vacation to visit the inlaws then (you could just do a long weekend) and then you guys could go somewhere fun as a family. He might also need to use some of the additional vacation for when LO is sick, you don't have childcare etc.

I have more vacation than him and I just take more single days off. When I have friends in town, I take off, etc. it works out just fine! He gets off earlier than me and will take LO places without me

He has 6 weeks of vacation, plus sick time (and has accrued a ton of sick time). I get 4 weeks of PTO but this coming year, I will have 3 because of the way they changed the PTO calendar for 2014. So, it blows. He has the entire end of the year off and I'm stuck at work every day but the 25th and 1st of Jan. Boo.

This year, we are not going to visit his parents (who live a flight away) for the week b/c I don't want to waste the week of vacation. We will see them when they come to us. It stinks because their home is a vacation spot but we have to watch my PTO.

DH is a college student so he's always off. Haha! I have 2 weeks, after March (my 1 year at this company) I'll get 3 weeks. My last job I had been there long enough to have 5 weeks and boy do I miss that! ;)

When I had a desk job (before LO arrived), I had 30 days plus holidays but DH had 47 days plus holidays. DH would take random days off without me, but almost all of my vacation time was with him.

Now I am freelance so I can take unpaid time off whenever I want. DH now has about 6 weeks of vacation plus holidays. We haven't yet ever taken vacations just one of us with the LOs, but I think it is something that could happen when they are older.

When we were both working it was tough because he technically doesn't get vacation time, it's his family's business that his dad owns, so he has to ask him for vacay time and then feels guilty because they are a small business and missing one person makes a big difference.

I told him early on that he needed to take at least one week off a year, anything less is just not acceptable to me. During that one week we go somewhere and get away. I would use the rest of my vacay time here and there to just have some extra time to run errands and get things done around the house.

DH's job is 10 months long, so he will have 2 months off in the summer to be with LO. I don't see them going on any trips together at 4-5 months, but he will have her all day rather than being in daycare.

I get 6 weeks off per my negotiated contract (in place of maternity leave) and about 10 holidays, but I'm not sure if we'll keep that in there again next year or bump it down to 3 weeks. Depends on when we plan on the next LO joining the crew. We like vacations together, so I don't foresee one of us taking LO on trips/visits alone unless it's an extended family emergency type of thing, like an ailing relative.

YES. My husband is a professor, so I feel like he is always on vacation!! Lol, seriously though, the academic calendar is pretty awesome. I have your typical corporate 3 weeks and a handful of holidays. We don't do any vacations either us without LO or LO with 1 parent yet; mostly because my husband has plenty to do on "vacation" and it's just never come up. In the future he and LO might take a short vacation together; the idea doesn't bother me.

This hasn't come up yet since LO is brand new. He gets three weeks, and I will get 12 days this year, but can supplement my time with comp time. LO and I will likely be traveling this summer without my husband since he'll be traveling for work.

I get 2 weeks of paid vacation per year. One week goes to visiting the in laws out of state. The other week is usually eaten up one day at a time by taking Friday for travel to weddings etc.

DH gets 3 weeks and every Friday off. Since he only works four days a week he can flex his schedule and get a four day weekend without taking time off. I suggested that he take LO to visit his family without me once she has weaned. He thinks that's a bad idea and I won't like it in practice.

How do you handle disparity in vacation? Do you or your partner take LO somewhere alone?
