I'm a democrat and he considers himself a democrat-leaning libertarian. We don't agree on everything but luckily we're pretty good at friendly argument. We are both "independent/swing" voters except husband is really more a republican. He voted for gary johnson (to him it was either johnson or trump) and I voted for Hillary. After the election there was a massive week(s) long bash of the election results from various left wing friends. DH has had it and started complaining about them (to him he thinks that we should cut it and start moving forward and unite as a country rather than separating ourselves and spreading fear and rumor). I spoke up for them and explain why they are doing what they are doing. We had a fight, yes, about this stupid election and social media. DH almost, yes, he almost was going to unfriend me on FB because he thought I was one of them. When I am really neutral and I just can see why people are unhappy. Gosh. I lean left and he is firm right. I'd say we are broadly both majorly socially liberal and fiscally conservative. My husband's field is mathematical finance (ie he does what caused the GFC) so we do have some differing views on the economy, mostly due to his detailed understanding of economics and my lack thereof!
