I already have DS from a previous marriage so my 1st was a boy. This go round I think both DH and I are leaning to "wanting" another boy for a couple reason....

1. Even though DH is 1 of 4 on his dad's side, NOONE (out of like 10 grandkids) has had a boy. This would be the 1st official "name carrier"

2. DS has waited a LOOOONG time to have a sibling where he lives (his dad has another son) and we would love to be able to give him a brother to play with.

That said, we'll be just as thrilled to have a daughter (and I do love the idea of having a one-day relationship like my mom & I have) AND DS has even said that he's okay with having a baby sister.... "as long as I don't have girl toys in my room" lol

Since we aren't finding out the gender we'll just be in suspense until this coming April. EEK! *excitement*

I kind of want a boy first, girl second (testoterone does well in the leader-like first child position.) On the other hand, I want to meet my Charlie Grace!

We'd be happy with either but we're both rooting for a son. The bond between the hubs and our nephew is so adorable. I would really love for us to have a boy. Obviously a healthy baby of either gender would be fantastic.

Healthy baby is all we hope for, but if we had a preference it is definitely a son first.

DH for typical first time father/only child reasons and mine is because I was the oldest daughter of the eldest son of my paternal family and I've had a lot of responsibilities, etc. that I wouldn't want my daughter to have to carry through life.

As I'm creeping up on the age of 35, a healthy baby is VERY important to us. I would like a girl. My husband would like a boy. One of us will get our wish!! :) We will both be happy with either one but I know if we have a girl, dh will have to get a prescription for heartburn medicine. ;-)

We just wanted a healthy baby. But, I was hoping for a boy. Husband wanted a girl. I'm so so so happy I have a baby girl. Every mama needs a daughter!
For baby #2 I'd like a girl.. but would be happy either way.

obviously, like everyone, i wanted healthy babies first, especially since we had so much trouble conceiving. but once i found out we had twins, i really wanted a boy and a girl.

not that anyone gave me real pressure (except my hubby cuz he wants boys), but i definitely felt pressure to produce a boy as well. my husband is the first of the first of the first or something.

My husband and I wanted a boy first. When we found out we were having a girl, he was so excited immediately. But it didn't take me long after the scan, maybe an hour, to start being really excited we were having a girl and her name came to me right away once I processed the information. Now, if we have a second, I would really love to have another girl as I think they are so sweet but of course having one and one would be cool, too.

@Yin: My husband and his brother are fraternal twins so his parents were thrilled to have a granddaughter - they were sick of boys! And my parents hoped I would have a girl (my LO is the first grandchild on both sides). I know some Asian families where having a boy is a serious matter and I know of some people who are genuinely stressed when finding out the gender of their baby. Very interesting.

Healthy baby was a huge priority for us, especially since we had a scare with radiation exposure early in my pregnancy. As for a gender, I wanted our first to be a boy because I grew up with a house full of girls. Only during the beginning of my pregnancy did I start to favor having a little girl.

I will admit that having a boy first has put a lot of pressure off of my husband and I. Asian cultures can be so pushy about having the prized boy, and it's just silly.

I want a girl SOOOO bad. If our first is a girl (I find out November 8!) I'd like our second (aka last) to be a boy. Hubs wants a boy first, but is rooting for a girl because he knows how badly I want a girl, haha

Like you, health was our priority. I thought I was going to have a boy but once we found out we were having a girl, I fell in love with the idea of having my own little daughter. Whenever #2 happens, I don't care what gender it is - I like the idea of having one of each but I also like the idea of sisters.

My #1 goal was to have healthy children. Gender was completely secondary to that.

For baby #1, I was ever so slightly rooting for a girl. I think it would've been hard on me to have two girls though. Because with our two lady cats, that would've been five ladies in the house versus one outnumbered guy!

For baby #2, I was rooting for a girl again... just so that we might have one of each. This time, I got it right. 50% chance, I guess!

But like I said, I wasn't really that focused on gender overall. I just wanted our kids to be healthy and happy!
