A combo of the two, I will go to the grocery store alone and DH will watch LO, and then we will go do "man things" in the garage or basement while I take over for a bit. And then we make sure to spend time together as a family.

Side-by-side, usually, unless we have something planned. Like on Sundays, I usually do meal prep for the games while he watches them, then he gets to toss back a few beers with his buddies while I do evening duty (baths, and bedtime).

Sometimes, I'll grab dinner with a friend and he'll do evening duties. We mix it up.

Mostly shifts. DH does a lot of home projects on the weekends (either ours, BIL's or FIL's) so it's just not possible for him to watch the girls. Alternatively, if I need to run a million errands I'll just leave him at home with the girls so I can get it done more quickly

I solo parent! DH works most nights and weekends.
He's the solo parent until he leaves for work at noon during the week.

It's rare that we're all together during the school year.

@raintreebee: That's how we were until recently! Now that the kids are getting older though, I'm thinking that taking an entire weekend off now and then might be good for both of us!

Both. For example, this weekend I have plans with my girlfriends on Sunday. So I'll probably take J for a couple hours saturday so he can chill and then we'll do something together. And he'll hang out with him while I'm out sunday.

Bee and I tend to parent the kids together on weekends, since we usually go somewhere as a family. If we venture out alone with the kids, it can get stressful taking a double stroller on the subway - and up and down stairs!

This winter though, it's been too cold to go out on big adventures. So this past weekend, we took shifts with the kids. I took the kids on a playdate to our friends' house last Saturday morning, and then I napped while she took them to the playground and the grocery store. It worked out pretty nicely!

Do you and your SO parent side-by-side on weekends? Or do you take shifts spending time with the kids?
