Not at this point (DD is 2). Sometimes I'll ask her if she wants a particular side or snack, but that's the extent of it. As she gets older I will let her help plan meals if that's something she's interested in.

I often do for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Sometimes it's less open-ended and more of a this-or-that option. If they are in a rut or have had more unhealthy treats, I will sometimes select for them or make them pick between two healthier-than-normal options.

For dinner, we let them help us decide maybe 1-2x a week. If we are ordering take-out, we'll let my 4yo help us pick where from or what to get. And if she is around while I'm meal planning, I'll ask her if anything sounds good for dinner that week. My 20m old is just along for the ride :)

I don't ask but DD will make a request sometimes and if we have that thing she may have it. If she's asking for fruit or something around 5pm I tell her I will put some on her plate at dinner but I meal plan so she doesn't get to decide what she eats completely.

We will ask what they want and it might happen. (One can only eat pasta with tomato sauce ever so often).

If we are eating breakfast or lunch together as a family (which rarely happens) then no, they don't get a choice. But, if we aren't eating together then DS usually gets to pick what both kids eat since DD isn't old enough to tell me. The only choice I give for dinner is how they want their food presented. Like if we are having tacos, I'll ask if he wants a taco, a taco bowl, or a quesadilla.

If I have easy options for lunch, I'll give a choice (a or b). Dinner is usually my call, and breakfast all they ever want is oatmeal, so no need to ask. :)

I will occasionally let her pick which fruit or vegetable by letting her pick between two options. Otherwise, nope, no choice. She's only 20 months and we've learned that giving her too many options end badly for all of us.

When I can't decide or don't know what to eat, I will. I'll give him a general choice like noodles or rice? Then I'll pick where/what we eat.

We give choices for breakfast, but limited options for lunch (we give a vegetable, a fruit and a protein, plus sometimes a carb and he can eat as much or as little of it as he wants), no options for dinner (but again, we serve multiple things so he can pick that way). We find that if we say "what do you want to eat," disaster usually ensues and our little one always responds "I want to eat!" or "I want to eat something else" without actually verbalizing what he DOES want.

The only time I give her carte blanche is when she's sick and I'm desperate for her to eat SOMETHING. Otherwise, I try to give her limited options "do you want x, y, or z". But sometimes, there's only one option so I don't ask.

I do. I wouldn't appreciate just being required to eat whatever was served to me, so I always ask her for input. She participates in meal planning for dinners, as well, which are a family meal.

Only breakfast. I have meals planned out for the week so this line cook can not take short orders for dinner. I would listen to him if he want a specific dish, and it may happen the week after :)

I plan my meals out a week at a time, so sometimes I'll give him some options out of my plan and make what he prefers that night. We give him options for breakfast usually, but he almost always picks cereal.

I definitely ask for lunch. Sometimes, I'm on autopilot for breakfast, but sometimes I take requests. Dinner, I'll only ask if DH is going to be gone and I'm feeding kid-zone food.

DS1 will verbalize his requests but DS2 still can't really say what he wants (he's 20 months and will say yes to certain choices and no to others but he can't really say "I want pasta!").

I also give choices for snacks.

Do you ask your LO what they want to eat, or just make them something?

For breakfast and lunch I do (mostly) take requests, but for dinner I usually already have a plan. Occasionally if it's just the girls and I then I'll ask what they want, since we usually eat kid type foods that are easy when DH is gone.
