Sometimes it's less open-ended and more of a this-or-that option. If they are in a rut or have had more unhealthy treats, I will sometimes select for them or make them pick between two healthier-than-normal options.</p> <p>For dinner, we let them help us decide maybe 1-2x a week. If we are ordering take-out, we'll let my 4yo help us pick where from or what to get. And if she is around while I'm meal planning, I'll ask her if anything sounds good for dinner that week. But, if we aren't eating together then DS usually gets to pick what both kids eat since DD isn't old enough to tell me. The only choice I give for dinner is how they want their food presented. Occasionally if it's just the girls and I then I'll ask what they want, since we usually eat kid type foods that are easy when DH is gone. </p>
