My doctor felt very strongly about this as I am due in March. So my parents got the flu and tdap shots and we will be asking my MIL-I'm sure she's already up to date since she works with kids. They'll be spending the most amount of time with her before she's been vaccinated. We have to feel out the rest of the family. I won't be passing her around like a hot potato in flu season.

We asked when DD1 was born and they said no. We still had them over. They are coming again for DD2's birth and we're not going to bring it up again bc their answer will be the same.

We asked our parents but won't push the issue if they don't get it. Both my dad and mom went and had it. SO's parents did not (as expected).
I made SO get it and I will be getting it at the hospital.

@mediagirl: that's the odd part. If my son were old enough to be vaccinated, and I didn't believe in vaccines, I wouldn't be expecting others to get vaccinated instead.

Oh well...good luck with that!

We asked anyone who would see the baby before his first shots to get the vaccine. After that we haven't worried about it. We do ask for flu and pneumonia but don't require it for my husband. He has Cystic Fibrosis and the flu could really make him sick.

I probably won't. I am due in July so it won't be cold or flu season, and I don't believe my older sister or brother asked anyone to with their LOs. If someone was going to be staying for a while (like over a week, in the house) or was going to be long term child care, I might ask, but probably not insist. I haven't heard of any cases in my area, though, if I had, I would ask for it.

My hospital gives them to the parents about month before the baby is born.

@dagret: good question....I don't know their take on vaccines (my brother is a doctor but I don't know his stance on things) but I thought the same thing....nephew isn't a baby anymore - he's a 14 month old.

We asked our parents to get whooping cough and the flu shot. My parents are doctors so they were both up-to-date and MIL was lectured on the importance of the vaccines by my med. student SIL. FIL will be away until after LO gets her shots so I'm not going to bother him with it.

My LO isn't here yet, but I most likely will not be asking family (or anyone) to get any vaccines. My family lives close enough that they probably just won't visit if they are sick, and I haven't heard of a case of whooping cough in my area, so I'm not overly worried about it.

I asked my mom to get the whooping cough vaccine. She will be staying with us after the baby is born. Turns out she had gotten it two years ago, so it's still valid.

I will mention it to the other family members coming to visit, but I don't think I will demand it for anyone other than my husband.

Yep, we asked anyone who will be spending a lot of time with the baby to get the Whooping Cough one at the very least. So, all of our parents and my SIL were asked. The only person who has objected is my SIL because she doesn't like needles. I got both vaccines and DH will get the Whooping Cough one.

I'm due at the end of December, so it was important for us to protect a newborn.

My parents got the flu shot, but my mom will be taking care of LO when I go back to work, so she really wanted to get it.

She tried to get the whooping cough one, but they told her that it was given to her through another booster shot and that it was good for 10 years or so? At any rate, they said she didn't need it.

My parents are going to visit my brother, sil and 14 month old nephew next month. My SIL told them they have to get the whooping cough vaccine and the flu shot before they can visit with them. My parents aren't staying with them, they're staying at a hotel but they obviously will be spending time with them.

Do you require people who will be around your lo to get their flu shot/whooping cough vaccine? How old will your lo be when you don't worry about that as much?
