Is the issue with name brands, or with character clothing? I don't have an issue with branded clothing, but we don't do anything that has licensed characters or lots of wording, like "Mommy's Rockstar."

My biggest issue is cost, something they are going to get tired of soon or grow out of quickly, I don't want to waste money on.

Growing up we couldn't afford name brand clothes and shoes, so the only way we got it was gifts, hand me downs, or whatever came from Woolworth's.

I'm not a big fan of the commercialism anywhere, especially for image purposes.

I love that she calls them Blooms- she is adorable!

I'm not a fan of anything branded...especially nike and under armor stuff on little boys. It drives me nuts. Hopefully we'll be able to avoid it with our daughter but I'm not going to be crazy about banning it because then it becomes a forbidden fruit and I worry she'll want it more.

I'd SO do My Little Pony for a girl! Otherwise, I'm not into branded stuff. If it's something my child picks out and is a comparable price, fine.

Though I admit, I got my nephew a jedi outfit for his build-a-bear Kermit for his birthday.

@Mrs. Jacks: It depends. For underwear we purchased Pixar Toy Story and Cars so that it would make Mavrick excited about underwear (and potty training) hopefully.

But I'm not a brand type of gal. I find it ridiculous to pay for something pricey for no reason. AND I don't like my son wearing anything (visible) character related. I dress him like a little monsieur.

@Mrs. Jacks: DD loves her Dora toothbrush and sleeps with a Hello Kitty doll so I figure she will like the undies. I am all for using some branded things to encourage teeth brushing and sleeping, hehe! But you're right, if those things have no meaning to Lala then it might not help with potty training anyway!

@JessicaMcB: It is a ridiculous amount of pressure, isn't it? Though I just finally found some adorable "blooms" from Carters on sale and they were probably way cheaper than these branded ones :)

I HATE all that stuff. If I am going to spend money on stuff I'd rather it be: Nautica, Ralph Lauren, Tommy, North face....
I don't like the whole disney characters stuff....Its just not my taste because I feel like its too childish and trendy. I just don't like it on gear and/or clothing.
I do love the movies & toys and I will get those for my son.

@Mrs. Jacks: I'd agree if that's all you ever bought her. But a healthy balance of regular unbranded things with the odd branded thing (if it was something Jack Jack liked of course!) isn't the end of the world right? I don't feel like buying a pack of Cinderella underpants woud make you a bad mama- that's a lot of pressure to put on yourself!

We don't plan on buying branded/logo clothing (except as a very special treat like @Andrea). I hope LO isn't too into any TV/movie character - I don't love the look of everything matchy-matchy to a TV character. Someone gave us a bunch of Calvin Klein onesies that are just covered in "CK" and "Calvin Klein" - like no pattern at all, just product promotion. Logo stuff like that for babies just seems so pretentious.

@JessicaMcB: I had all that stuff too, but I just think how much money it put into the pockets of these big juggernauts that thrive on children's adoration and it makes me feel weird :)

I think when she's too little to understand things like Disney Princesses we would avoid them because if anything that stuff is more expensive and unnecessary then, but when she's older and really enjoys those things I can't see myself saying no. My mom let me have Ariel and My Little Pony everything, and I managed to survive ;)

I think when they are really little, I wouldn't because I don't think they are that cute. But when they are preschoolers or older and if they wanted it, I don't see the harm. Unless it was freakishly expensive, of course.

@Andrea: Will do! She has a few pairs now, but she doesn't care what they look like, just that they are "blooms". She doesn't even know who Dora or Cinderella or Hello Kitty are, so why get them?

We mostly stay away but I have purchased a few branded things for incentives, like when we took our first plane trip and I bought her a branded wheelie suitcase. She was so good and wheeled that thing around herself the whole time so it was really helpful!

As far as undies, I just did the same thing because I was inspired by the post! Did you go to Kohls? I just bought her Dora and Hello Kitty undies from there. I only had some normal ones from baby Gap at first but the potty training post had me worried that they are too boring!

So head on over to the Gap if you want some normal undies!

I really want to stay away from any sort of "themed" clothing (like Disney, television shows, etc). I know sometimes it's unavoidable though if your child really gets into that stuff and wants it everywhere (sheets, towels, clothes, bookbag, etc).

Yeah I don't really like it either. Thankfully for boys it's a little easier, striped, dinosaurs etc

My little sister was totally into Disney princesses so it worked out for her.

Today we went to the store to buy Lala a new set of underwear (blooms in her words) inspired by some of the recent potty training posts. We thought it might help with poo poo on the potty.

At the store they had Dora, Disney Princesses, Cars the movie (only for boys) and Hello Kitty.

We've always made it a policy not to buy promotional branded items, plus her school also forbids branded gear... so we had to walk away empty handed after TWO different stores.

Do you buy branded gear? If you don't, do you sometimes have a hard time finding what you need, like we did today?
